Black Hash 20 yrs ago.

About 20 years ago, we would get black hash, that wasn’t overly good, but the taste n smell , hold a special spot for me.
I’ve been trying to recreate this hash for a very long time.
I think I’m coming close but I can’t get it 100%, last run was too soft n inside color was off. But it’s good . I want lower grade hash for smoking during the day.
I got lots of bubble hash that will clear your schedule, but too strong for doing stuff, and too hard to roll into a J.
I’m wondering if any members, know what I’m talking about, or have a recipe etc?

What I’m doing is taking low grade kif that will not press on its own, and mixing iso oil
Then pressing . (Basically)
Last time I used to much oil, n it’s a little softer then I wanted.
It this how that hash was made?

I seriously hope thats not what I was smoking back in the 80-90's, but I have fond memories of it. It was soft and aromatic, but not skunky, black on the outside sometimes a little blond inside, sometime a hint of green. I recall you could tear off a small piece, heat it on a pin and it would just crumble perfectly between your fingers into fine particles. I practically lived on it for years, back then it was coming across Lake Ontario into the Kingston and Ottawa area, up from the US. Sometimes the source material was smuggled into the US from as far away as BC (rumors), then the hash smuggled back into Canada from New York and Michigan. #memberberries.

Ya some was very nice indeed.....some was crap. Good for periods of months then it would be bad for a bit....the way I remember anyway. When it was good though it was really good. Tasty nice buzz when it was gold seal.

Chapter 4 of D Golds Cannabis Alchemy has an old school hashish recipe. Basically powdering dry bud, separating the oils and plant materials with alcohol first then water, and then drying out the plant material and recombining them. page 37, check it out. probably not the recipe we are looking for, but maybe.

I won't tell you how I know this.
Get your trim/buds ready to roll.
Toss them into a blender with Iso Alcohol or a half gallon of Everclear (smoother taste)
Beat it to a pulp.
Now you have to use something crappy to filter it with. Cheap weed barrier cloth. When you're done pouring your alcohol through wring out the veggie matter......hard. Every last drop.
You're going to get dusty veggie matter all up in your alcohol in your dish. That's pretty much where your black hash is going to come from. Really crappy filtering method/beating buds to pulp.
After everything dries out though it'll come out like you want. Looks/feels like black modeling clay. Now that I think about it that could be a VERY legit way to transport it.
Hey the smoke was good though. Even smoked it out of a glass pipe like meth. The look on my girlfriend's face when she walked in on that one was priceless.
Like I said I won't tell you how I know this. Just know that they were dark times. Dark SHAMEFUL times.

I too have found memories of hash.
Not sure about nowadays but 20 or so years ago, there was tons of hash coming through the maritimes. I relative of mine did 9 years for being a driver in a bust that included a dump truck full. Obviously the container port in Halifax ,but as much or more was brought in on fishing boats all throughout rural Nova Scotia.
Goodluck making your hash
Cheers :)

I just now realized you were the OP hahaha
I absolutely know the exact hash you are talking about. Most would of called it gold seal. It ran the show before the rock hard Moroccan started coming through. Then the repressed BS flooded the market .
Cheers man :)

Going to read that book, I just skimmed it.
I think that could be the recipe
Lots of the old recipes have water, this is close to what I’m doing , but I’m not using any water .
My last run was pretty close
Bottom right , is pretty close to old school black, just not 100%
Got half of it smoked now

Yes it was the Gold Seal hash I miss

Ok, maybe this is for another thread but never hurts to ask.
15-18 years ago at the end of a summer a shipment of weed came around.
It was very dense, it smelled n tastes like oranges . It didn’t have a orange hint or suddle flavor of orange it was 100% orange
After that I’ve tried about 10 orange strains looking for her,
I’m thinking it was a chemical put on the buds any ideas ?
