Blue Dream SCROG Help?

Hi all, newbie here! Having been an avid follower of multiple grow journals on this site for a good while now, I thought what better place to go when I need a bit of advice!

So, I'm already under way with my first grow. I have 5 Humboldt Seeds "Blue Dream" plants, which were started from seed. They germinated on April 10th, and have been growing happily in a 5x5ft tent ever since, under a 600w Dual Spectrum HPS, which is in an Air Cooled Reflector. The plants themselves are in 5 gallon tubs.

They have been getting fed using the Shogun Nutrients Line, and have no problems with them at all. I decided to use the SCROG method, having read that it is a good option when growing in a smaller space, with regards to light penetration and what not. So if the first two weeks of life is classified as the seedling stage, they have no been in Veg for 30 days (44 Days Total Time). I was wondering when would be the best time to switch over to flower? I have attached a couple of pics I took a few minutes ago.

Thank you all in advance! Just hope I've posted this in the right department lol!

Just a few extra details:

Growing Medium: Soil
Room Temp: 75 to 82f Lights on / 69 lights off
RH: Between 38 & 42%

Hi.. They look pretty healthy.

You could really have filled that scrog space with just one plant. You will probably run out of space or at least run into very crowded conditions..
However since you already have them going you should probably flip now.and do your best to manage the jungle that will ensue. In two weeks clip off everything under the screen. (Lollipop)

A better option would be to remove the net, give one plant to a friend and just LST them. This will allow you to move things around and trim, water, treat much easier. But flip the lights soon just the same since you are running out of space.

Thanks for replying! Before I started I debated on how many plants to go with to fill the tent, and 5 seemed the most optimal. Just hope I haven't made a newbie mistake lol! I have now flipped them anyway, and I did the math to allow enough height to account for up to 3 times the plants current height in stretch.

As long as I get enough buds on there to keep me going whilst I am having back problems, I will be more than happy! Would you happen to know the yield I should be expecting from that sized space?

Thanks again for your time in replying! Much appreciated!

Thanks for replying! Would you happen to know how much stretch I should be expecting? I did a bit of math and there is enough space above them to allow upto 3 times the plants current height in stretch. And that would be 18" under the light, given its maximum height.

Thanks again for taking the time to read and reply!

Hard to guess yield but if I were you I'd be expecting at least a pound(and i don't mean that as in the old about a pound joke). I run a 3x3 foot tent with a 600w in DWC and I average around a pound. DWC and my experience help get that yield so with you being new and having more space I'd say you're on track, and you're doing a great job so far, sounds like you did your research. Blue Dream is supposed to be a good yielder too so I think you have a damn good yield in store.

Mine probably stretched almost 2 foot above the net, so you should be good, your tent is prolly same height as mine. I flipped later than I wanted to too so my vertical stretch should have been less if i was on time. You still have room to push them under the net so you can take up some of that stretch horizontally rather than vertical.

Just a quick update.. I changed the duration on the timer so that it is now at 12/12. So first day of flowering
The SCROG seems to have filled out nicely in the last couple of days.

I did have a little accident last night where as one the split stem branches broke off on one plant, and left me with a cut stem. I did however bandage her up and she still seems to be doing nicely.

Hoping to get enough buds on these girls to make my bad back a bit more manageable. I have attached a couple more pics I took earl, for your viewing pleasure, and will continue to do so if anybody would like to keep being updated?

Thanks again for all your help though guys! :weed:

Oh wow! Didn't think I would get anywhere near that much! I had read that Blue Dream was a reported good yielder although so that is a nice suprise! Glad to hear you think I'm doing a good job, I really appreciate that! I did put quite a bit of research in although for this particular strain there a lot of the info I found is quite old, with posts popping up ranging in date as far back as 2003 haha! Do you have any photo's of yours you would share for comparison?

Thanks again for taking the time to reply!

Personally I have tried the nets but I always go back to stakes every time you can move the plants around and spray every side of them with a net they are stuck in place for 9ish weeks
That's one thing I found awkward using the SCROG. It's a bit tricky getting to the plants at back if you need to do any maintainance lol!

Or trying to foiler feed one whole side of the two back plants really won't get much if anything but I'm sure they will survive.

Same here... I just use bamboo stakes now.. Just as good, but portable.

Yea, figuring .5 - .7 ounces or so per watt you should do 12-16 ounces... that should fix your back :)

If you stick with the scrog you may need another level of netting. Time will tell.

All in all though, you're good. Don't sweat the small stuff.. And make sure to supplement with cal/mag.. it's the number one newbie problem besides over watering.

Update.. Just looked at your updated pics..LOL! (I actually did lol :)
Get ready for Jurassic park in there.. I'm laughing because we just did a scrog that turned into a monster.. It'll be awesome to see yours Looks great though.. Definitely consider another level before it's too late.

Ill have to give the bamboo stakes a go next time round! I was tending to them just now, and what you said about needing another layer of netting looks to be true! I'm four days into flower and they're around 6" above the SCROG, and are still stretching!

Haha Jurassic Park! Might have to get me a machete come harvest time :lol: Ill take a few more photo's in a few mins to keep you guys updated!

judging by your shogun nutrients I would guess you're in the U.K. I've noticed the 3x3 Scrog is much easier to deal with you're grow is looking good & I see happiness ahead the main thing is you're getting hands-on experience here is my sour diesel grow inspired by sunny 747 my advice is to keep reading around here & keep growing you'll eventually develop your own style they don't have shogun here I don't think but the stickman swears by itIMG_1669.JPG

Being my first ever grow, Shogun Nutrients seemed the best bang for the buck. Even so, I did quite a lot of research before hand and they seemed like a highly praised product. May I ask which nutrients you use, as I am keen to experiment?

Here is a a picture of the Blue Dream I took a few moment ago.. The difference that just a few days makes is phenomenal!

Holy heck! Growing like crazy! Very healthy looking.

I use GH FLoranova Series. also. It's fine. Nutes are like vitamins. If you take a bunch you don't get bigger and stronger, but without them you can get sick. A good grow environment is the more important part I think.

I use GH grow during veg mixed with cal mag and the occasional boost of silicon and fox farms grow big for mycos. In flower I use add in Terpinator to sweeten things up, but that's about it.

For your second level you can just get the netting and zip tie it to your tent frame.

I've actually not heard of FloraNova? Is that available in UK? And also, great way to sum up Nutes!

The first SCROG net is actually cable tied to the tent frame.. I got the idea from a video I saw on youtube by a grower who goes by the name LiquidJade. Very informative videos he makes! However instead of using the metal fencing wire that he does, I saw a very strong and sturdy plastic equivalent at a local Nursery. Seems to be the doing the job great, and only cost £2.80 for a 3x3m cut.
