Linking Bombs against Iran to Martial Law in the US.

The legislative and executive branches of any government are tasked with keeping the polity safe, secure, vital and vigilant.
The populace entrusts these branches with their safety and well-being, assuming that its leaders will act in the best interests of the commonwealth.
Democratic rule, with its institutionalized recalls, is one of the ways in which the hand of government can be both guided and, if necessary, stayed should its intent prove injurious to the greater good of the people.

It's a fine balance that is required for this to work well -- and you can be certain that it will never work to the satisfaction of everybody.
In 2000, the American electorate chose to hand the reins of power to what has proven to be a delusional, mendacious and corrupt crew of leaders. And the very manner in which these achieved the Executive was to prove illustrative of how they would move against the Constitution, the nation's laws and civil rights in order to secure their objective of a strong Unitary Executive.

A short while ago, the President's enablers stole power over Martial Law by sneaking new statutes into a body of legislation that was passed by an "unaware" Congress. Why?

In the years following 2000, the White House has moved to consolidate power and to gain control over as many branches of government as possible - it has been willing to trample precious and universal liberties in order to do so.
If we had reason to assume that the operators presently occupying the White House were honest, and serving in the true interest of the polity, then we would not have cause for concern.
Unfortunately we have irrefutable and plentiful proof that the Executive of the US acts in its own interest, in the service of its cronies and enablers. The lies that have been issued by representatives of the executive and the government will stain the republic for decades - their actions possibly for centuries.
For which reason we should question the rationale behind this eagerness to gain power over the issuance of Martial Law - away from the States that constitute the Federal Republic and into the hands of President Bush.

What has the White House seen, that requires this behind the scenes maneuver? An act that even the periodically oblivious NYTimes found underhand and disgraceful.
The flag waving and war hungry crew in the White House are moving against Iran.
Their machinations have caused great concern among legislators and other observers.

Top representatives of the MSM came away from a "background briefing" convinced that Iran will be a major element in future news coverage; Senators seek to force an admission from the Secretary of State, as to whether she considers the Executive to have the necessary Congressional authority to move against Iran; General Wesley Clarke is organizing an effort to halt war against Iran, as is Jack Murtha; meanwhile the White House calls for surges, and speaks of hostile actions against American troops inside Iraq, by Iranians, carrying wood to a fire they want to light.
Here's why they want authority over Martial Law.
Many seem to think that business will go on as usual should the US attack Iran.
In past years, the president has encouraged Americans to go on shopping, to keep the economy going, while the nation's military has sunk deeper into the quagmire of Iraq.
What will happen should the US attack Iran?

The US economy will come to a halt. Immense disruptions will ensue - as the price of oil shoots upwards, way past Jerome de Paris' benchmark of USD 100. Should the Iranians succeed in blocking oil supplies from the Gulf, then the US economy will simply cease to work. The US presently devours 25% of the world's daily oil production - the nation is poised on the edge of disaster and will fall victim should major disruptions to the oil supply occur.
Cheney, of course, has seen this and accepted that the US will have to do what it takes to secure ME oil for the USA and its allies. His thinking is long term. On the way to the goal he has set, he also sees necessary cataclysm before control is reattained.
His gameplan got upset by the loss of Congress during last year's elections, which is why they are rushing ahead into a confrontation with Iran. When that is unleashed, and the forces are being rallied as you read this - as is the propaganda - then many Americans will be unable to transport themselves in the manner they have taken for granted too long. The oil simply won't be there, or it will be too expensive, or strictly rationed.

And that's when the Just-in-Time manufacturing and transportation systems the nations of the West have learned to rely upon, in order to have lean and efficient economies, will wreak havoc with their societies. The US is uniquely dependent upon fueled transportation for its food and goods - with essential items being shipped by plane, truck or rail in an insane criss cross of the nation's many states. (Discounting what is being brought in from abroad).
War against Iran, even if somehow contained to involve just Iran, will cause major disruptions. But a war against Iran will very likely involve Saudi Arabia, other Gulf nations, Pakistan, Indonesia ...
It will be cataclysmic, and the logic of asymmetrical warfare will ensure that its effects are felt far beyond the Gulf.

At Huffingtonpost yesterday Jane Smiley asked what people would do should Bush introduce Martial Law. There were many quaint and unrealistic replies, from people who obviously saw themselves as having to put away the TV remote for a day or two while they went into the streets to protest.
Bush and Cheney will first move against Iran, setting in motion the avalanche that will strike a blow against the US polity. Thus causing disruptions so far ranging and systemic as to turn major portions of the US into zones of despair the equal of what you saw in post-Katrina New Orleans.
And that's when Martial Law will be required.

All who think that war against Iran will be "Iraq II" have not seen what Cheney has understood, from the very day he and his oil company cronies decided to make a play for the petroleum resources of the ME. He is convinced that he will be vindicated eventually, and he has managed to persuade Bush that his presidency will be seen in a favourable light, the day the world comes to accept that the US and its allies secured hegemony over this vital resource.
Their support is fading away.
Denmark today announced it is pulling out of the coalition. Blair is despairing, and wants no part of the assault on Iran. Afghanistan is not turning out the way it was supposed to, and Iraq is devolving into complete anarchy.
But Cheney doesn't care - he has his gameplan, and has been following it since the 90s.
"Sometimes it takes cataclysmic war to achieve one's ultimate ends," Cheney is thinking, with the "historian" Victor Davis Hanson cheering him on.

Blinded by chatter about WMDs, democracy and credible threats to our safety, people have woken up too late to the folly launched by the Bush administration when the pretext of 9/11 "presented" itself to them.
Those who call Cheney irrational and delusional (myself included) have yet failed to accept his intent. Once you accept (or try and understand) his goal, then his actions become perfectly rational - including the lies, the perfidy and the desire to practise brinkmanship in the Gulf.

It is to be hoped that Congress understands what's at stake. But as long as the Senate can't even pass a non-binding resolution as to whether it will debate these serious issues, there is not much hope, is there?
Instead, it's time to see what pretext will be engineered this time, as hell is unleashed against yet another nation, by forces maneuvering for a resource so precious to the functioning of modern society that everything we have come to take for granted can disappear overnight, should it stop flowing.
And when that happens, the president needs to be able to take away all civil rights until the Executive has "restored order" to its liking.
This is why the unease and outright worry expressed by many legislators as to the prospects of war against Iran deserve our utmost attention and support.
It's a mad play devised to gain control not only over Iran's oil, and the Middle East. It is just as much aimed at the very fabric of US society, against the rights and liberties that have been created for the benefit of the many, as a bulwark against the narrow self-interest of the privileged few.

And should you think this is not the game going on now, then you have quite a spectacle coming your way soon, courtesy of Mr Cheney and his Irreality Show
