I would have topped them before now. They are getting tall. How much light do you get?

If tall is not an issue let them grow natural. I always top while plants are much smaller but it certainly won't hurt to top now. Topping will keep them shorter and Bush out. Not doing so and they should get much taller.

If the plants are going to fight for light from surrounding vegetation don't top. If they get lots of light and you can train them out into a Bush top them. Thats what I would do anyhow. Having never grew that variety I really don't know what its profile looks like.

So far they look nice. And yes they will get big if you tie them down. Light is critical. Don't be afraid to chop vegetation around them now. In a month you won't even notice. It grows back fast. And as long is its not hardwood I chop trees in the way.

Yea I know some tard will say bad karma. But I plant trees all year, many more than any liberal complainer. And I cut trees to heat my home. So no crying trees. I have 86 acres of trees I planted. A good thousand mixed fir and hardwoods.

Your going to want some thick stakes as well. Tie them up regardless of topping or training. Nothing sucks worse than top heavy plants going down in a storm. Big buds will make them flop without a big storm.

Good luck.

Every spot is different so it's hard to say how much light they get, I would like to see more branching by now but I'm hoping they start branching really well soon. I had a bounty killer last year (deadhead og) x( chemdawg x SSH) that was a good 9-10ft tall so height isn't really and issue. lol after reading your post I think ima get to cutting back some bushes and what not

Personally I like to top at least twice and much more depending on how they respond and following up with fimming all of my tops in mid July. I'm going to try some supercropping this year as well. Sometimes I will tie my plants down for the first few weeks as well and cut them loose sometime in June. Helps to get the lower branches big and beefy and keeps the plants a little shorter.

Yes certainly. I can't explain the science behind it. But I've heard it enough I should.

Anyhow short answer is yes it will.

Everyone has their own techniques there is no right or wrong with topping. I like to top at the third node and cut the two lowest clean off. These make good clones if you want to keep it. I find on most plants the second and third node sites develope very fast when topped.

From there you can tie the branches down to create more light to the lower areas then that will create more mass and node sites. Be careful when tieing down. The plant will outgrow your ties quick. And when budding anything tied down will likely need to be tied up to prevent breakage.
