Bridgelux EB Series Build

50' of AWG18 can carry 10A
What it "can carry" and what you "should do" are often two very different things. 50 feet of 18g will dissipate in excess of 30W at 10 amps. With air circulation around it that might not be a problem, but bundle it, wrap it, tuck it into tight spaces...

IMO, 10 amps is too much current to continuously run through 18g wire. You're basically right at the limit, I like a bit of headroom.

I am not suggesting he runs 10A, what I am saying is the wire is sufficient to carry the power for longer than it takes to blow the fuse.

All the cool COBs I want are just available in trays. The V22s I want is 150 to a tray, I only wanted 25 for the next buildout.
only one other retailer carries singles, but at about a 50% premium. One might as well pay the few cents more and get vero 29s.

But you can already pre-order them. I have paid, and waiting for shipping now.

And yes, I also think, that they will only stock 3500K and 5000K, either because there are so many gen1 left, or because gen1 sold badly, and they don‘t want to stock so much again. My guess..
I noticed the gen 2 spec sheet did not specifically say it could be ran without a heatsink at test current...like the gen 1 can. So being as how you're going to be one of the first to play with them, please compare voltage droop without a heatsink on both boards. Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks.

What about Citizen or Luminus CXM 22 cobs from cobkits.com ?

V22s can be less than half the price of those for maybe 2% less performance. The ones I want to use are 181lm/W at low current, but you can buy two for the money and outperform one of the better ones.

And where can you get V22s for that price?

Just wanted to thank everyone for the great advice and guidance. I now have 12x2' 3000k strips in a 3'x2' space, powered by 4 of the scavenged LED drivers, and it's looking more like that old fashioned HPS glow now, rather than the pink hue I had become accustomed to with the Mars II's :)

And it's just amazing to be able to mount these strips flush to the underside of my metal shelves, and have a powerful 'no-profile' lighting solution!

I also helped to deplete the Gen 1 stock, so hopefully that will make the Gen 2 available sooner for you guys ;)

I also have everything here, beside the chinese stuff, eta: who should know...

And digikey is really crazy. 4 orders, 4 times different amount (15-20) of EB strips, and the package is everytime different... 3/4 orders I just got a bag, with the strips thrown into, but meanwhile they take care, they are stacked tightly, so the connectors can‘t break, as it happened before. 1/4 was the jackpot. They sent me the strips in the bridgelux plastic case, but what they don‘t know, that there are always 2 strips over each other... so I just got doubled as much strips as I ordered. For me it‘s always an adventure ordering at digikey!

No, also my last order was gen1, the only order I had nothing to complain, 15 strips ordered, and I got 15 undamaged strips! I expect my gen2 to come january. Maybe christmas, because digikey is really fast...

What is the efficiency gain on the gen 2 ?

I ended up getting 4 strips with busted connectors , sent them an email with pictures and they shipped me out 4 new ones no problem , just wish they didn’t throw them into a bag together like that cause they were definitely tumbling around in there and broke off. Broken ones still look usable just broken plastic cover on connectors is this safe? Maybe some electric tape to cover?

I am so used to it... I am just happy that digikey‘s service is great, and they send replacement with express mail (2 days to europe after complaining). Personally I am not using the broken ones, have +15 of them laying around for easier construction/mounting. So I can drill and screw and whatever without taking care of the good strips, until final finish.
