Bubbleponics Foam Help!

Alright, there really isn't anything wrong with my plants, but there is some foam in the res and it smells a tad and I know this could lead to problems for the plants. This happened earlier in the week so I followed Roseman's 8step recovery which solved the problem.

There was no foam until this morning. The only thing I did with my res last night was add 1/4 dose of Micro and Grow nutes (SH stuff) after straining them.

The last time I changed my res I also cleaned my pump quite thoroughly so I am not really sure what is causing this foam?

I searched a bit in this forum and found something that sounds possible.

From the thread "Article on Algae" I read:

2. Top watering

Another way to infect your system is through top watering your growing medium. While fluorescent light cannot infect water it can cause algae build-up on your growing medium during the cloning phase. If you top water infected medium you are introducing algae into your system. If exposed to high intensity light your nutrients can become infected. The nutrients will turn cloudy and if used will cause plants to wilt within a day. Any water contacted by HIDs then introduced into your system will become contaminated.

Reverse osmosis systems will not prevent algae and neither will water purifiers. Algae is not introduced into your system externally; it is caused within a system, directly or indirectly by HIDs. Hydrogen peroxide will not control an infection nor will bleach. Hydrogen peroxide is mainly used for fighting pythium; by itself it's ineffective, even at high doses, on algae.
I did not have any coverings over the rockwool cubes while they have been growing until recently. I also did have the tubes on top of the cube, instead of poked into it near the bottom as I have heard is suggested.

Could this be the problem? If so, how can I fix it?

Here are some pics of the foam/plants.

Thanks for any and all help

that foam is OK, and not harmful.
Those little white spcs you had was water minerals, and are safe and OK.
You are underfeeding them some, start 1/4 dose at the sight of second node, next 1/4 at the sight of the tiny 5th and 6th leaf. Next 1/4 at 7th and 8th leaf, to play it very safe.
You are doing good.

I unsubscribed from your thread cause some newbs with no experience with the kit were advising you there and I did not care to debate the thickness of the tank lid. They sell 60 kites a day, sold 30 a day in 2007, and no one complains of algae due to light shining through the lid or tank. Light can shine in the cups if you do not make cup covers.
This would sure help you:

Thank you for the reply Roseman, the news about the foam put my mind at ease.

I have skimmed over of those threads a bit but I will definitely spend some more time reading them thoroughly.

Thanks again for your help! + rep!

Been looking for info on this issue. I think Hygrozyme is causing my res to foam. Could this be possible? The foam is soapy and bubbly looking, I think it is skim created by bacteria breaking down nitrates and matter in the water?

mine is foaming too. i use most of advanced nutrients line. im wondering if the b-52 organic fertilizer is not cooperating with the chemical nutrients. but it was harmful to my plants. just killed one today. the plant was actually in a reservoir before i put it in my 5 gal bucket. it had the snot bacteria on the roots. i cleaned as much as i could, put in a beast of an airstone, put in grow, micro, bloom, bud candy, b-52, and superthrive(non AN). the only other time we;ve ever seen a foam was when we tried organics...killed all of our plants then...hopefully it wont kill these...any advice? how to prevent?
