Bud backing? Bud swelling? Thoughts?

So I have grown for a long while now. Obviously I want to get the biggest buds possible. I recently stumbled across some info about Bud Swelling and Bud Backing. Has anyone tried this? I guess in week 4 you kinda of trim the buds in essence topping them so they swell larger and weigh more.

Now I saw 1 video where a guy did this to 1 cola around the same size as another. The one he trimmed ended up weighing about 6 grams meet than the other.

Just wondering if anyone practices this technique?

And if so what are the results?

Cheers and Happy Growing!

Just checked the thread out on another forum and I gotta say it looks good. No conclusive evidence of increases weight but I do like the density and possibility of increases weight

Sorry was at work. Ya I think I'm going to try it. Hard to tell a weight difference. As every one of my plants is different size. But I can at least try it on half of one plant and compare results. I have a grow journal going. I'll post it in there

I'm also doing 2 gal vs 3 gallon vs 5 gallon comparison all with same veg time. Will show roots of all wet and dry weights along with a smoke report. Thanks for the interest. Seems people on this site are hermits lol. Nameste!

The best way to compare would be to take two clones flowering them out next to one another and giving the same amount of nutes etc, not many people have the time for that, but from an anecdotal point of view I can't see any detriment in it.

That should be interesting. I'll check it out!

I agree with the clone selection. But personally I would try it with like 2 fem #1 pheno seeds and compare that way. Getting 2 exact clones might be a little tough even if you take 2 terminal tops I think it would be difficult. But I'm sure it would be close enough to tell a difference if it does work. Next time I clone I'll get 2 as close to the same size clones as I can and I'll give it a shot.

Plants from seed will never be as close to identical as clones. You'd invalidate the test results immediately.

I do back building on most all my plants and it works excellent but in order to get the best results you should nip every bud on the stalk. Weight wise, yup, size wise = very impressive.

I would now... and maybe once more in 2 weeks. Try this on a couple and leave some alone you will see the difference.
Attempting exactly this. Starting bud backing next week. Start of week 4 flower week 5 since flip 10 or 11 week strain. Will do it again week 8. Doing it to 3 out of the crop similar size to some others next to them to see if there is a noticeable difference. Thanks for the input. I'm the OP.

Trying new things is good, as long as we don't fall for placebos.

Most people are absolutely afraid to touch their buds I find.. Really odd. Should always have some testers going. Gotta try new things!
It's kinda warranted though. Rot and likely some other infections could set in on damaged parts and you'd imagine it would up the stress levels so that if anything else in the environment is off (heat wave) it could push them over the edge. A tester is a good idea but you'd have to inspect every branch daily, easier said than done and that's just checking one.

I've tried it and still do it to some plants that like to grow tall, spiky colas. I really don't notice any yield increase but the buds grow round and fat rather than tall and thin. From what I understand it's more to keep the buds nice and round so they feed through big bud trimming machines easier and have better bag appeal rather than increase weights. Works good if you have foxtails going on to keep them from getting too long.

Never had a snipped one get rot either.
