Awwwww he's a cutie!
He was the only one I saw in three days. Too hot even for the snakes to crawl. It was 95F with a HI of 115F at 1730 when I got to the trailhead. Guess what? I didn't see anyone else hiking. I spent a good deal of the day in a little creek, and hiked more at night.

I failed to mention my little tumble. Like I had said, it was really hot this week, so I decided to walk up the little creek by my campsite. It started out with a sand and gravel bottom for the first mile or so, but went through a long stretch of sandstone bed. The sandstone was level, and the creek had cut a channel two feet deep. It was easier walking on the rock, so that is what I was doing. There is a couple of small 2 foot waterfalls, one of which has a pretty good pool for sitting. Not far past there I was on a stretch that had seeps on the edge, so the rock was covered with green moss. I said out loud, "this is dangerous as hell." No sooner had I said it, and my feet went out from under me. Luckily my face and right leg broke my fall. I got a little scrape on my face and a bruise on my leg, but nothing broken. I went back and sat in the pool and let the waterfall pound on me for a good half hour before I headed back toward camp. I bushwhacked back.

It's a good thing your face broke your fall, otherwise you might have hurt yourself...

I'm a little sore, but amazingly, no long term damage. I can't take any credit for a good fall. I went down so fast I hit the rock before I had time to react.
I can relate:
I tried hockey skates on ice once. I tried to quick turn like you can on figure skates and instantly slammed my face to the ice. 15 stitches.

Did I say once? Yeah...

I picked up a used utv this week. Took it for a ride around the longleaf pines behind the house. I ran into this little fellow right off the bat. I had just dropped the wife off back at the house. If she had been in the passenger seat, he would have hit her.

Just a little black snake, but she would have never let me hear the end of it. We had gone down between two rows of pines, then turned up the edge toward the house. The woods side is really grown up, so bushes were hitting the windshield, then slapping at her. She is not a fan of snakes.

Snappers are mean as hell man. We have some that get absolutely huge where I live. Definitely not something to play around with. I got a chunk of my arm bitten off when I was a teenager. I'll tell you what, after that happened I had a new respect for turtles.

I had a friend who had a pet snapping turtle whom he allowed to roam around his house. Best damn security system ever! He was even friendly- for a snapper, that is...

Holy shit, a pet snapper? That's something I haven't heard of, especially one with free roam of the house hahaha. Yeah man I could definitely see people getting intimidated by one. How big was it?
