Cal Mag Question

Is a Cal Mag supplement necessary if you already have Oyster Shell Flour, Glacial Rock Dust, Langbeinite, Rock Phosphate and Gypsum in the soil mix? Also using tap water sitting in buckets for over 48 hours.

Hard to say. But easy enough to monitor and add something if needed. Personally with heavily amended living soil sometimes I get s very slight mg def during the first run on soil. Usually by second or third amendments are broken down and more available to plants as time goes on.

NO.
I run pro mix with only Organicare composted chicken manure with 6% C added.
I once added cal/mag to 6 super stars at less than half strength and all six plants locked up and suffered. never happened till I followed internet advice that one time.
Lotsa miss info in organics atm
There r different approaches
But some of the info is dated ( Super Soil
4 one ) sub doesn't even use it anymore
Some is slighted to to buy products that u can find way cheaper if u knew better.I use sulpomag, gypsum, oyster,4 different rock flours ,crab, fish, fish bone ,feather, shrimp meals,DE
,neem & kelp I add that when composting heat, worm is over
I like a broad approach to building soil

Oyster shell flour has plenty of cal and mag. So does crab shell meal, neem cake, karanja cake , and gypsum and kelp meal has cal.

Also don't let buckets of water sit. Add air stones and aerate the water.

If you run into deficiencies early on. More than likely you didn't cook your soil long enough. Seed sprout tea's, bokashi or worm castings will fix that

Malted seed grd up used as a top dress will help that under cooked issue , as they have high amounts of enzymes that help break down the amendments faster, I use whole corn sst , has a Lotta starches as well so it's prime food for the herd too .

Our tap water is very high in calcium and magnesium both but I use it only in cooler drier months. I use my used mix as at least 20% in my mix which deals with a lot of aggravating deficiencies and seems to make the mix better sooner after mixing. Kmag is very quick help if watered in.
