Can dimming damage 1000 watt MH lights & should I dim in veg?

I vegged before with 1000 watt about 4 to 5 feet away from plants. This time my ceiling is about 4 feet. Temps are cool and air blowing gently between plants and light with slight plant movement from air.

They do not look as good as I would like. Last time I was vegging 24/0 with MH and HPS and the HPS plants did better. 7200 K on MH and about 2700 on HPS.

I can dim to 600 or 400 watts but does it damage the bulb?

Interesting your MH plants did better , cool

Dimming is reported to cut down on the bulbs life span

So it causes it to degrade faster , with a $30 bulb it matters little imo just swap it out sooner then suggested its cheap enough.

Or use a old bulb to dim with, I like that option , beat on the old bulb not the new one.

As long as the bulb is made to go with a digital ballast you'll be fine.

Even if it did degrade the bulb faster than normal, most people don't use the same bulb for more than 1-3 grows anyway.
