find the blackest soil in your area and use that. thats what i do every year. i also put a fish head at the bottom of the bucket before filling it with 50/50 native dirt/soil

Get some FoxFarms ocean forest, you could probably fit two small bags into a backpack, that soil has a good amount of nutrients and amendments so a mix of 50/50 with native soil would work well.

this is what i am doing, although i will be adding perlite, sphagnum moss, and perlite to the native soil too

The only moss I seen available at the regular store was miracle
Grow... And I've seen many people caution against using their products...

people tend to dislike miracle grow products because their soil has time released fertilizers in it which becomes a problem when you are trying to flush the soil before harvest.

I dont think that miracle grow peat moss has any nutes in it so that should be just fine to use.

but you should be able to find other sphagnum peat moss at menards/lowes. i bought a 2.2 cubic foot bale of Premier peat moss at Menards it runs about six bucks
