why we are having a memorial ceremony for the two soldiers who died a year ago? Don't we honour our military on November 11, or did I miss something?

I know what they are commemorating I'm just thinking about all the other guys that die every day and they don't have a ceremony dedicated to them other than Nov 11...I'm not trying to be thick I just don't get it....

human nature to mark tragic events.
little different than remembrance day.. just how it all went down. pretty poignant event.

All their deaths are tragic human events...we are fucked as a society...there is no need to be commemorating this...buddy even has a park named after him now...how does the wife and kids of buddy who died last week in some godforsaken place feel? What makes this soldier more important than the rest?

It puts more weight on the need for c51 and keeps terror fresher in everyone's mind the more often this stuff is brought up.
It shouldn't really be all that surprising considering any time you ask about an insurance rate increase the first thing brought up is 9/11 and how much that cost the insurance industry.
Hundreds of soldiers have died since 9/11 but they will be faceless and forgotten because they weren't murdered under a spotlight.

nobody's saying their deaths aren't tragic, or he's more important.
you're just taking it offensively i guess.

more known i guess because it was a big event on our homesoil. you talk of disrespecting other soldiers/families.. don't you think it'd be more distasteful to make no mention of this?

I don't know what it is to be honest...it just doesn't seem right to me to honour outside of the official date of rememberance...absolutely mention it, but commemorate it nah...

It was an attack on parliament hill. The soldier was killed and is a representation of what happened. Symbolism....

It's propaganda to keep the scare factor in the public eye. I would think some of the parents of fallen soldiers who we sent in to battle in some of the most hellish places in the world are scratching there heads wondering.... Imo as always
