Can we talk about height?

Hi all! I'm putting together(98% done!) a over sized spacebucket using a 32gal trashcan. I'm also using some very high power leds and I'm concerned about height issues now.

Realistically how short can you train? I'm sure there is no right answer here and it's very much strain dependent, but I'd like to here some stories from experienced micro/cab growers. I believe I have about 30 inches from the leds to the bottom of the can, with a recomended distance of ~20in from canopies.

I'm now thinking I might have to stick the plant in a 5gal or similar bucket and cut a hole in the bottom of the trashcan like the drawing shows, but that might be a pita since all the lights/driver/fans are on top and may make it top heavy.

Any thoughts?

Could do something like this, this gives almost 100% light mitigation for flowering and stealth. One bin becomes an adjustable sleeve. Lighting attached to the upper bin for height adjust. Wrap mylar/reflective around the inner 2x4grid fence/trellis. Fans attached on top the passive heat-sink creates good circulation.

Air flows downward between the stacked bins, over the fabric grow container then up through the plant. Stuff cut-to-fit HVAC filter in between the two cans, keeps the bugs out and snug things up.

If you use metal bins, they're decent reflector. Could bury the bottom bin, pop the top on off for sunny days.

I've been growing in a small cab for years with a total distance from floor to lights of 29". If you flip them to flower give them about 3 times the current height for headroom. Train them out flat with a screen if you can or just keep puliing then down and tie them down with string. Focus on lighting with more blue light in it as it will help keep them shorter
