Carbon filters (Design)

Yoyo Y'all,

So I'm going to putting my girls into flowering on the first but I still haven't put in an exhaust fan. I just have my isolating fans in there.

I've been looking online & reading like crazy on a inexpensive way to build a carbon filter system fans and all. However most of what I am reading seem extreamly difficult to build as I am not your greatest handy man. I am willing to spend up to 2-3 hundred dollars to make on but have no idea where to start. Where to buy this stuff other than ordering online.

Can anyone suggest a way to accomplish this task ???

Thank you in advance for your willingness to help.

I second that... Amazon.com has fan+filter combos shipped for about $180 for a 6 inch diameter, 10-12inch long...

You can build them for slightly under that price, but if you are a week out of getting ready to flower... just buy it, it's not worth saving the $20.

Ipower carbon doesnt work but its cheaper and easier as a shell. Refill it with some sun systems carbon from the hydro store or just buy a phresh.

I can vouch for what weedfreak has to say. Mine was a cheapie. And while it does work. It is noisier than expected.

If by any chance you're around heavy equipment. The carbon filters you buy online have a striking appearance to industrial engine air filters. The stuff you find on construction equipment or semi trucks.

Pulling the rubber gasket off one side. Removing the paper filament. Filling it up with ground carbon. Sticking the gasket back on and securing it with rivets.

The flanges are unique. They're not a common part but wouldn't be hard to fashion.

Other methods are making a box and using carbon A.C. filters on the sides.

I found a filter looking thing at the dump. No guts in it. Just the frame. It's about 15cm across. And maybe 20cm deep.
I've folded and stitched a fabric bag over it. I was going to fill that with carbon and attach it to a 5" fan. I'll post a pic later.

If you build your own, make sure to use medical grade carbon flakes... *you need much less of this so it makes things lighter too.
The reason being that there are more air pockets in those flakes.

I'm on my second Can66. I kept the first one and am just going to refill it. I figure for the price of one filter I should be able buy bulk carbon and refill them at least 3 times. Having the cage already built was worth it to purchase them initially, imo. I could've built them, but I'd rather spend my time doing other more important things. Then the used carbon will get spread around my veggie garden in the fall.

Yes, I agree these filters can and should be reused. But, use flakes and get the best quality carbon you can get, (it will outlast the cheap pellets and crumble types by ages).

iPower filter works great for me. You can flip the flanges too. I've also refilled mine with carbon from eBay.

As an owner of 2 6" ipower filters, I agree with others... Excellent investment, but make no mistake, its the frame you are buying, the carbon aint worth a shit.

The removable flanges make it a snap to swap ends, or replace the carbon... in fact, finding bulk high quality carbon is harder than the actual replacement process, lol.

If the stink is something you care about, get a filter. If you wanna go budget and dont mind a lil work every few months, go with the iPower and some good carbon...

If budget aint the main factor, fuck it, get a phresh... and if unsure on size, always err on the larger side...
