Well, had nothing to smoke with, just a plank, a couple of bolts, a coin, handsaw, drill, screwdriver and a file.
I cut two pieces from the plank (1.5" by 11/16"), last cut was at an angle. Made a channel (using the screwdriver as a chisel) and drilled a bowl in one. used the other one to close the channel and make a hole for smoking/attaching a mouthpiece. Put the planks together and drilled 3 holes to bolt them together. Then as a finishing touch i heated a coin red hot (to remove any coating) and after cooling placed it in the bowl (keeps the wood from burning too much). Works nicely, smoke cools down enough in the 11" it has to travel. Durability is no issue, i'd guess it can also double as a 13" baton.
Recommended DIY for anyone, doesn't get much simpler. Just pick the right type of wood, anything untreated (you don't want chemicals) and heavy (dry weight, compared to pine etc. Heavy weight means its hard wood, tastes better when smoking)
