Ceramic Metal Halide question

ok so I was wondering if a 150w CMH bulb will work in a 150w Sunsytem or hydrofarm type of light with an enclosed ballast. If not, can someone suggest a good ballast to use.

Also I was wondering how loud a 150w magnetic ballast is

thank you

No problem as long as the bulb type and wattage match. I use commercially available bulbs in my 400w XTrasun switchable ballast. Putting a 150w bulb in a 175w ballast will dramatically reduce the bulb life if not burn it out immediately.

Phillips All start 150 CMH were made to run in a 150w hps or 175mh with a magnetic ballast. They are conversion bulbs.
And they have universal burn position.
1000bulbs.com has them....

I used them an liked it, but not as much as my 400w induction floro.

As far as noise goes I have a 600 watt HPS magentic ballast right next to my bed and its on from when I fall asleep to when I wake up. The noise is minimal and you can live/get used to it. Good Luck.

Magnetic ballasts are louder than electronic ones because they operate at a much lower frequency (50Hz-60Hz vs 20kHz). They don't get really loud until they begin to fail, think "street light". The major drawback to "digital" (electronic) ballasts is that they emit radio frequency which can be detected outside of your house, which can be an issue if you're growing somewhere where it's still less than legal. ;)

My 400w magnetic ballast hums but not enough to be heard outside of my grow room with the door closed.
