So heres my question I have an ultrasun 400w MH 7500k bulb that I want to use.It is a different shape than what I am use to.Is there certain bulbs that can bung hung vertically or are they universal? The reason I ask is because I just switched to vert socket this morning and when I first fired up the ballast the bulb looked like it was flickering between a white light and a more orange hue. Thanks RIU

Bulbs/Lamps are universal, it can be hung in any direction....
When you fired it up [today for first time] you just were standing and looking....
Prob does it everytime...
I see no issues, your problem is done....

Okay so it is good that I never take anyone's word for things. In my case I actually found the specs for my lamp and it is in fact a universal mount. For anyone reading this thread there is bad information posted by others and lamps are infact not ALL universal. It is a good thing mine was or peoples misinformation could have caused damage, fire or anything else.Case in point.

No actually they make three types... horz., vert, and universal. They will work but you will not get the longevety from the bulb.

Bulbs are stamped with their position code. They come in horizontal install, verticle install, or a Un Universal install. You can interchange them but they wear out faster if not made for the mounting position they are placed in. I just make sure I get a Un universal mount bulb usually from Pulse or Digilux now adays. occasionally a Universal from hortilux.
