CFL Efficiency

Was putting something together and thought I would ask here if anyone knows the answer. How close would be "too close" between two 23w CFL? In other words, what would be the shortest distance between two bulbs on a row of them? To provide most light and least waste? Thanks for you're opinions guys.

you can have those bulbs basically touching if you want,
But why?
you will want them able to move around the plant seperetly to get the most light coverage all around the plant, they don't produce enough lumens to use like a HID..

i set up a sweet fridge with sockets(8) along in a row just below the freezer box(i gutted the fridge first)on the inside with each light about 2-4 inches apart and i grew a sweet little bush in there. it was an awesome first grow. i used 5 23 watt and 3 42 watt cfls . it works, but dont expect tight chronic nugs, you get mids

The title of this thread is kind of misleading. It doesn't talk about efficiency at all.
