Just get a grow light! They are easy to find! HID! Those cfl's should be around the house. Like those splitters were made for. Don't people use them for like porch lights and stuff? Did you check the porch lighting section at home depot? LOL. Or get out of the hardware store and go to a grow store! You won't find CFL's but some nice HID's! Good Luck

Don't people use HIDs as porch lights?
If you see a house with an HID as a porch light I would like to see it. Who needs a porch light that bright? You might be thinking of street lights, or lights in stores like Sam's Club or Costco. LOL. Good luck finding someone with a 1000 watt porch light, or even a 400 watt porch light for that matter. That would have to be ONE BIG ASS PORCH! LOL.........I will stick to my CFL for my porch, and HID for my plants! LOL

Yeah but 50w 75w or even 150w porch lights are not out of the question, in fact the house right behind where I work has some sort of HID light as an outside light.

My point is that your assesment of what CFLs were meant to be used for is sort of pointless because I doubt HIDs were initially designed for growing plants. If you walk through Home Depot for instance, you might find many HPS lights designed for your walk way, or many other non growing applications. So instead of trying to push your own personal growing dogma, just answer people's questions and be helpful.

yes the y splitters are at home depot and walmart they are easy to over look tho just look where you see all the other small electrical connectors..... and as far as hid lights if you want to look at those you can stay in home depot they sale hps security lights 50 and 75 w I beleive, there is a post in the diy section about how to make it a remote balast grow light.... hope that helps and dont listen to the nay sayers there is plenty of bud being grown without hid lights good luck
