I am currently using a sunblaze T5 HO for veg. 4 x 4' 6500k 54w HO tubes, specified at 20,000 lumens.150$

I am also using a generic 125w CFL for veg 6500K , specified at 5,000 lumens 60$ w/bat wing.

The T5 HO is great for covering distance. Can veg quite a few under a 4' x 2' radius. The bulbs don't get too hot 95-103F

The CFL puts out some freaking power! Not so good at covering distance. They are usually 6"~ bulbs. So they are not too good for multiple plants. The bulb's can get hot, mine measured at 167-173F

I am taking readings on x100. Therefore if the meter reads 300 you are getting 30000 Lux which is the equivelant to 2787.09lumens per Sq Ft.

125 W CFL
UP TO BULB 8129 Lumens Per Sq Ft.
3" 3465 Lumens Per Sq Ft.
6" 2294 Lumens Per Sq Ft.
12" 938 Lumens Per Sq Ft .
216W T5 HO
UP TO BULB 5769 Lumens Per Sq Ft.
3" 4004 Lumens Per Sq Ft.
6" 3223 Lumens Per Sq Ft.
12" 2015 Lumens Per Sq Ft
.

In Conlusion, CFL's can definitely pack a punch! You do lose lumens per watt the higher cfl you purchase from what I've read. I think the 42 Watter's are the sweet spot. I think a lot of cfl's would work great - would be a lot of work and a lot of adjusting numerous bulbs.

T5 HO can cover a great a amount of distance but can be somewhat pricey. With 150$ you can a HID setup but I have had better results with vegging under Flouro's. Well for the first two weeks of growth, seedling stage if you will.

I'm sure a lot of people are familiar with seemorebuds 3.5 oz for under 100$ where he just uses CFL's and adjust them daily. I've never went past a month using flouro's but wow can some people pull off some crazy DIY CABS with flouro's and computer fans, lol...Anyways figured I would throw these measurements out there for the heck of it.
