Charlesiii Aerogarden Round 1

Hey everyone,
I've been lurking the forums for a little over four months and decided it was about time I contributed too. These pictures are of 5 plants and one sprout in a single aerogarden unit with two additional 45 watt cfl's. I've been using Fox Farm hydro nutes, ran into a bit of a problem concerning my bottle of grow big. The bottle i received was for soil, caused a slight case of nute burn but everything should be back on track. The seeds are all bagseed with the exception of the one in the back right. That seed came from my friends latest bag of "chronic" so hopefully it'll have desireable traits.

I'm curious as to how bad these plants are going to wreak and how I'm going to be able to combat the odor..... i guess time will tell.

Sorry about the low quality pictures but it's the best I can do right now. Cheers

Looks good so far. You shouldn't have to worry about the smell until reaching the flowering stage from what i understand. Keep us updated with pics!!!!

looks like a cool setup! make sure you got lots of venting and airflow, and you wont have to worry about the smell really... when you finally do get to the flower stage theres many options... one of my favorites is ONA... head over to the GROW FAQs i got some good stuff there! best of luck bro

looks like my babies did long time ago, the aerogarden can really only support 2-3 plants
you need to sex them asap because they will triple in size when flowering, timer and a figure 8 power cord are a must, and i would cut back on the fox farms a little give them a half dose or just water for a week then keep with half dose

this plant has been on 12/12 it's whole life and and has the burns from fox farms, and a batch of fungus gnats. (thuricide cleared that up)

I've already got the 8v cord and timer, I'm also on 1/4th the concentration of fox farm. I've read pretty much everyone thread ever on rollitup about the aerogarden. R32115, you always post such righteous pictures of your grows, one thing not many users of the aerogarden do. Did you have any problems with the smell towards the end? Also any tricks of the trade that have yet to be touched upon? It seems like everyone who uses the ag has so awesome trick to help with the process. Well thanks for the quick replies, I'll post more pics tomorrow! Cheers

Hey everyone,
This picture was just taken after the first night of 12/12 darkness; the roots went crazy! I tried to give them their first post nute burn dose but it was a little too soon. Now I've got these brown dots forming on all of the leaves. I changed the res and gave it a half dose of grow big and left it alone. I put it on 12/12 to help keep the size manageable, I understand that this mass stress plants but it's a risk I'll have to take. Cheers

Hey everyone,
After the third night of 12/12 I found my plants with another case of nute burn....atleast I think it's nute burn. I had changed the res three days ago after a fox farm burn, and replaced the res with distilled water, and two tsps of big bloom (.01 .3 .7). I have soil grow big, which has a larger nitrogen content(6 instead of 3), I think the plants just weren't ready at this point. I'm really hoping it's nute burn and not something like a deficiency or a toxicity, the brown spots are strange. Anyone have any advice for a newbie? Also maybe one of the mods could move this to the grow journals section? Thanks and keep on smokin'! Cheers

such a sad group of pictures..... help me make these plants happy please!

:::::::::::::::::::::: Update::::::::::::::::::::::::::

last night I added a tsp of epsom salt in hopes of a mg def.( something i never thought i would hope for) Atleast i'll know what it is and be able to treat it. I also gave the plants a very very small dose of grow big, i'm pretty sure it's a mg def. Well I'll keep updating in hopes that someone will look at this thing. cheers!

i think you should run no nutes for a week on 24/7 lights, distilled water only, make sure you are running a little more acidic than neutral ph 6.5-6.8 or just jet em grow for a week in just distilled water 7.0 ph. you are giving them wayyyyyy to much nutrient for this stage in their growth.

Thanks for the reply! Since this is my first grow, I think i broke the first rule of being a newb; too many nutes, too much water. I thought the brown spots were a tell tale sign of a mg def. but i guess the nutes were the problem afterall. I did what you suggested with a quarter dose of epsom salt just incase it was a mg def.; it did show some mild chlorosis of the leaves.

I'm using distilled water with a ph of 5.5-6.0. My grow room temps range from 77-80 with the lights on, to 72-78 with the lights off. The biggest one is three weeks old while the shortest sprout is about a week and a half. All the other plants are about two weeks old. I was following the foxfarm schedule with the big bloom from day one of seed. Well I guess we'll have to see what happens from here. thanks again for your reply! Cheers!

can anyone on this site give me a step by step instruction to grow weed using the aero garden, regarding the nutrient type and doses, lighting, amount of water needed, etc.

Mr I Can Do That For Half
First open your window wide. Next pick up the aerogarden. Last toss it out as far as you can... Thats about as good as it gets using the aero garden for growing ganja. Make a simple aero tube yourself and get your money back. These are for late night infomercial suckers...

How are you checking the nutes in the res for ph and ppm? ph should be at 5.8 in the res with nutes and what ppm stage are you at? Do you have the other 2 need fox farm nutes your supposed to add or just grow big as thats only 1 of the 3 bottle you need

I have all three of the in the fox farm package, with the exception of hydro big bloom, i have the soil one which is 6-4-4. ph is kept at a steady 6.0, i'm using the aerogarden as a cheap and easy way to try growing out first hand; sorry if I didn't build my own setup? Anyway I'm thinking I was dealing with some calcium def. plants, since i was using distilled water. I began mixing half and half with tap water from my house, and it appears as if the plants have started to perk up. I'm going to keep these plants on ph'd water for a few more days, atleast until they show me that they are hungry for some nutrients. I'll have updated pics and experiences as they happen so stay tuned. Cheers

::::: maybe the mods could put this in grow journals? Thanks!::::::

Hey Charles,

just letting you know a problem I had with the aerogarden. Those paper covering with the plant name that go on the plastic plant tray, I see you don't have them on. What happen with me was one of them was pushed off by the plant because I had already loosened it when I planted. I noticed within a day or two the whole sponge had molded and was growing on the plant. I duct taped it shut so no air or light could get through. You might see that problem eventually, but cutting the light and air will kill the growth.

Also I am using the nutrients that came with the herb seed kit, just half dose every week and the plants look beautiful, but I also add an organic growth catalyst and a little boost with another nute. I also scammed them to send me the master gardner grow kit which is enough to grow for a year, supposedly.

Thanks for the reply and great info TF, I have decidedly taken down my grow until I can get things settled. I believe my use of grow big soil instead of hydro and completely calcium barren distilled water did my grow in. The plants had calcium or mg deficiencies within the third week of veg which stunted their growth. I ordered grow big hydro and some cal/mag supplement so hopefully next time things will go well! Just remember kids, fox farm nutes are pretty strong, especially when using a gallon res. 1/4th strength for sure. Thanks everyone and I'll start up a new one soon!
