Cheap HPS Lights

Does anyone have info on where to purchase HPS lights 400-1000w on the cheap. I heard about e-bay. But wanted to find someone who has bought them there before I did myself.

Also...being that this is my 1st grow. Trial type thing....are HPS lights overkill if Im only using bagseed? Would CFL lights be cheaper or better for just a test run?

i can help you find a raw ballast assembly for under a hundred, but you'll have to wire it yourself. ebay often has bargains, but they are also snitches, and report who buys hydroponic equipment and very large grow lights. this alone won't get you busted, but it can get you watched...

So I guess E-Bay isnt a good idea. What about using CFL's since this is only a test run? Can I get a few (4 or 5) plants to veg/flower using CFl's only? I assume they're cheaper as well.

HTG is the shiz! got my light in 4 days. bulb and reflector were damaged in shipping, emaild tony and he had new ones to me by the end of the week, good people!

Man, I am a big supporter of CFLs, I 'll never use anything else. Unless you plan to deal and if you only want to grow in the closet CFLs are the way to go. LOW Heat, LOW energy, and very easy to move around and concentrate the light on your buds. I use 85 watts and when I start my next grow, I 've found some 105 watts on the internet that I will buy. CFLs vs HPS is very much a debate on this site and I have never used HPS lights. But look at my pics in GROW ROOM Setups, under R for Roseman.

the whole cfls being more energy efficient than hid setups is utter bullshit. 150w hps is around 16000 lumens, and 150w of cfls might be around 10000 lumens, tell me which is more efficient? and oh yea hid lights put simply shit all over cfls.

I use MH and HPS and had vent heat problems and I will stick with what I got.

If roseman likes cfl's then he likes cfl's and they work for him. I think most of it is what your after and what your willing to do to get it.

If you're going to spend $165 on a 400w HPS, you may as well go for something like this:

It's a 400w ballast/fixture/reflector with HPS and MH bulbs. This is the perfect lighting combination for only a bit more than you would pay for just the HPS. Seems like it would be really nice to just switch a bulb and timer when it's time to flower.
