Chiesel Full LED - First Time Grow

First grow ever and I'm choosing full LED for a number of reasons. It fits my area the best (small grow space SJ DR II 2x2x5 in a closet). It limits my heat/ventilation worries, especially during this time of year. It uses less energy, and all around looks brilliant. I've chosen a Kessil H350 Magenta, I don't plan on adding anymore lights during this grow but I do plan on adding more in the future. I've bag germinated the seeds using the paper towel method, they were taken from the bag showing good tap root growth and planted root down in soil with cellophane under the Magenta H350 43 inches high running a 18 on/6 off cycle, saw one had trouble getting out of its casing but all 3 have broke soil and are shedding their casing, lightly sprinkled them due to dry crusting (pretty moist FFOF soil), lowered light from 43" to about 34".

This is going to be my grow journal, I'm currently unsure if I'll need additional lighting since many have said the H350 will be sufficient

Nice, I'd be interested in seeing the results of that. I currently have my Kessil H350 about 34" above my seedlings atm. Ironic that I've actually thought of throwing a 90W UFO in if it turns out that this isn't enough. What strain will you be using?

Sweet, I used a kessil h350 a few grows back. Great light if you are going for low wattage or flexible hanging. mine clocked in at 70w actual. I'll be watching this thread with great interest. good luck.

I would like to do it, but currently I only own two 90W UFO, one blue majority, one red majority with 15pcs IR 730nm LEDs. Here are 7 blueberries under the IR UFO hanged at 12 inch.

Day three 8/28 - Top soil was crusty so I watered it lightly with some distilled water via spray bottle, humidity levels have been about 40% lately. Moved light down to about 30". I'm seeing some fast growth.

cant wait to see how this turns out. i am looking into LED growing too, hopefully i can pick up some good info in here

Babies are still very tender, be carefull about the bleaching..

Day 4 - More growth, still seeing that one seedling struggling with the casing, the other casings are off or almost off. I have a few 3 gallon smart pots to put them in when they're ready for the transplant with more FFOF soil.



I'm watching for bleaching since this is a bloom light.

Day 7 - It's been a few days since my last update, I watered on Day 5 and lowered the light on Day 6. It's now Day 7 and I'm seeing some signs of what may be seedling stretch and I have a Lasko 6" clip fan 5 days out but until then, I'm having the dilemma of witnessing a seedling growing towards the rim of the cup horizontally. I've observed the other seedlings bending towards the light so I've lowered it to about 8"-12", watered and have my smart pots and soil ready. I'm wondering if now is a good time to slit the plastic cups open and transplant into the 3 gallon pots or should I let them get more veg growth in the solo cups? Pics are below:

Personally I transplant at this point, you have to be very careful though!! And Most growers would probably think that it is silly to do so soon, but I transplant them right into my 7-10 gallons. You would be surprised how much the root structure can develop in just a week! Good luck

Ty, any tips on transplanting seedlings this small? I've seen some transplant videos but they're usually showing bigger plants.

nope, a finger on each side of the seedling, flip the container up side down, and gently push the bottom of the container. I have never killed one, once in a while I make a mess of it but once repoted and watered, it does just fine. I believe you dont really stress them at that age. YOU CAN DO IT

Day 8 - Transplanted from the 3 solo cups to 3 3-Gallon containers. Soil is still FFOF, used no nutes so far and don't plan to for the first 2-3 weeks but would like advice regarding this if possible

bravo!hehe it wasnt that hard was it^? I dont grow with bottled nutes but I would say if you are using FFOF from what I have heard you are good for a while without them. They are in 3 gallons as well so there is a lot of nutes in there. Since its your first grow I would go for 15 days without nutes, they will do very well. If you really cant help it and you want to feed you can ask Puffnuff in the led competition he knows how to feed well in the early stage, but he is in coco.

What do you think of some cal/mag for the FFOF soil? Too early?

Bilge... I use a ffof/perlite mix (2/3 to 1/3) and I can tell you that I don't give any nutes to my girls until about five or six weeks in. ffof has plenty of nutes to get you almost, if not all the way, to flower.

I bought two tubs of nutes last grow. veg and bloom. I'm ordering more bloom nutes but I still have enough veg nutes for like five years.

As for cal-mag... With an led grow I start adding 1/2 strength to my water starting around week three and quickly ramp it up to full dose by week five.
