Clay, water, blood

Hello,

I'm a first-yearer with a small private plot (7 young plants)... the problem is, the only secure location available is very wet, rooty, and if I dig down about 12-16 inches...water. I thought I could cut it about 33% perlite, but I'm afraid that is not enough. Should I try to bring in soil from elsewhere, and make some mounds?

Any tips for dealing with wet, wet clay... are appreciated.

Try making a raised bed. get plywood and make a box with it, fill it with dirt where you want to plant and leave the bottom open. Your plants will do nicely because they will have enough dry dirt for their roots not to drown but they won't have to go down very deep to reach the water table.

You need to use some containers. a "mound" will not be a secure spot for yoru plants. I think your easiest solution is to find a couple rubbermaids, say 4 gallon or larger, drill some holes and get some soil to mix in. This is a realistic solution.
