Clone / Lighting question

I have had 30 cuttings in my EZ-Cloner for 10 days now. Today one cutting showed its first ¼” root growth…. LOL
If it matters, there are 5 strains, 70 degree water with 2 teaspoons of Clone-X and a PH of 5.8. All leaves are healthy and green.
The cloner is approximately 2ft on either side from 400w CMH lights; there is no light directly over the cloner. Lighting is on an 18/6 schedule.

Question: Can cuttings receive too much light? I know most people clone under CFL, I am wondering if excessive light is inhibiting root growth.

is that a 400w on each side? if so, i'd put just one 400 directly above them about 12-14 inches away from the cuts. i usually give mine 24 hours of light and have no probs, but have heard of a lot of people doing 18/6

i would say indirect light should work too much light will force the clone to veg green instead of roots
I love my t5''s for clones :) but one cfl is enough imo
