"Clone Only" Strains?

Hello Everyone, first post here. This looks like a more active forum so I thought I'd switch over. :)

I've sampled 'Blue Dream' before and of course liked it quite well. Recently I aquired some medicine (3rd party) and I'm 98% certain it's BD from the look, smell, taste and effect. However, the person who is doing this - they must be a little off on something as this is the 3rd strain in a row thats had a few seeds in it. (Us experienced folks obviously know when you've got something new in your hands, even when you get it through 3rd party.) This particular one had 8 in an 1/8th.

I decided to read up on BD and read a lot of posts saying it was a "clone only strain". Given the term, I'd imagine other "clone onlys" exsist. However what about hermies? (Like I assume this one is.)

Thanks everyone!

Hopefully regardless of what it is it will be nice.

a clone only strain...

maybe it's a particular pheno from a name brand seed

maybe it's a particularly sexy bagseed someone grew out

if you got 3 strains and all 3 had seeds, the odds of all 3 of them having hermed and elfed is...well, slim

grow it out
watch them carefully - try germing 3 at a time in 5 or 8 day intervals - watch them closely, take clones, label well, and grow them out
start with the one that tasted best

Shag,

Thanks for the swift reply my friend. I guess this is the forum to be at!

To the best of my knowledge Blue Dream was developed in California and is DJ Shorts Blueberry and SS Haze mixed (I've read some conflicting info from personal accounts, but most of whats on strain-guide type websites is similar). Maybe they say it's a clone only strain because it was never "stabilized" and they only every got a few nice plants out of their original cross? No idea in the world how that stuff works so I won't even pretend to! Maybe the developers (some co-op type breeder I think) simply never released seeds in bulk?

Anyways regarding the bag seeds. The first one I got I didn't realize and I saw it at the bottom of my pipe all burnt. (I was angry!) My next eighth was different, but to my joy, the very first bud two seeds popped out and then none until the very last when 1 more appeared. Since there was a seed in the last eighth I asked the person who got it for me to ask what it was. (G-Bomb) As I said, this recent eighth is much different than the G-Bomb and it reminds me very much of Blue Dream I've gotten from another source entirely.

I guess it may seem unlikely to have someone hermie multiple plants in a row. But I don't know. Our state is one of the more recent MMJ friendly ones so folks aren't as experienced with this. Hence me trying to learn as much as I can. While I am a patient, I am tired of putting people I care for (who aren't patients) at risk. I could afford saving the money as well.

I have much experience with scientific experiences, so I've already done much of your advice. :) (Thanks!!) Last week I germinated one G-Bomb, it's at 8 days and doing well. I have a few others at 3 days now. Came up with a labeling/filing system and made a log template w/ excel.

I haven't done a blue dream though, so I'd like to asap.

Just wondering ladies and gentlemen.

Since BD is supposively a SSH and Blueberry cross both from DJ Short genetics, and I've read that all of DJ's stuff has the 'crinkle leaf' derformity bred into them... As far as a potential ID goes - if I put a couple of those seeds to good use and show the results to you experienced eyes, maybe it would give (a little) proof as to yes or know this may be BD? Can anyone with experience with the strain shed some light if blue dream does in fact have the crinkle leaf of it parent strains?

Also, if these two different strains that I got bag seeds from WEREN'T from hermied plants... that means that there is pollen floating around the persons grow boxes correct? And potentially the children I have on my hands now could wind up tasting like crap and or have some odd affects? (Assuming it's a random, uncontrolled pollen.)

That would leave me with one strain that I know is legit. Another kind contact who is far more experienced actually home bred some sour disel and bubble gum and give me a bag of about 25 seeds that were viable/unviable. I think I ended up with 11 or 12 real nice ones. I don't know about the lineage, (who's SD or whos bubble gum), but I trust the persons ability to produce medicine and I am extremely excited to sample this new cross. Just wish I had sampled Bog's SourBubble so I could give this person an informed and elaborate critique on his work.

Sorry for all the mumbojumbo mixed in. I'm new to all this stuff. Just hope I can absorb it quick.
