Cloning gel gone bad?

Hi, I just took six cuttings and used Olivias cloning gel. The gel had been used once before by a friend. It was opened a month ago.

I put the end of the cuttings in the gel but it didnt stick to the stock.. Is this normal? I mean are you suspose to see the gel on the end of the cutting or is it just a real small amount that you cant see.

Its possible the cap was left off for a couple hours, Could the gel have gone bad? It been two days now and they dont look so good. Half of them are on there sides.

Did you pour some of the gel into a separate container, or for that matter, did your friend? If the container was left off, it has probably dried out, doesn't take much. Use some pH balanced water of 5.0 and add it as minutely as possible to increase the moisture of the compound. Do not stick your clones directly into the main rooting compound. Pour some out into a small dish and clone from there. Bacteria run a plenty, and you want to save the gel for future usage.

Yes I used a seperate container. He didnt. I saw some small plant particals in the gel I removed about as half an inch of the gel from the top and tossed it.

The gel seemed like it was still good. Its just that I didnt see any stick on the stock. When used properly, do you see gel stick on the stock?

Yes, you should absolutely see gel on the cutting. Not globs or anything, but definitely something.

i have never used olivias, i use clonex and yes you can definatly see rooting gel when you dip the clone in it... also one of my buddys uses olivias i will ask him about it

gues im old school i still use powder.

Powder works just as fine. It's basically the same hormones as the gel, just in a different suspension. I love dip n grow. great stuff.

Thanks for the input guys, I figured it out.
Olivias cloning gel needs to be refridgerated after you open it. I didnt do that.
When I tried to apply it it didnt stick to the stems.
Maybe I will try dip an grow next time.

Still it looks like a couple are going to make it. I got them in my do it yourself bubbler. I have two air sticks and an underwater heater.
