Cloning

i am trying to clone ak-47. this is my second time, and still no sign of roots. the cutting are in rockwool, used rooting hormone and misted twice a day. this morning i opened one of the rockwool cubes to check out what was going on in there, because it had been like 2 weeks and no roots. at the bottom of the cutting it looked like there was a ball forming. i wasnt sure if this was what they look like before they root? or if the plant was just taking the water, and causing that ball to form? if anyone can let me know that would be nice.

Instead of putting it in rock wool, why dont you just put the clipping in a cup off water for like two weeks so it could grow roots.

that ball is the start of the roots but i would normally expect that in the first week even with hard to clone strains. rockwool is a difficult to use medium. if everything is perfect you will get great results but get one thing wrong and you are left scratching your head for 2 weeks. i recommend peat pellets. you dont have to ph adjust them like rockwool and less likey to get waterlogged like rockwool. keep your bottom warm and your top cool, this will shave a few days off. keeps your lights dim and 6400k is best. 20watts of fluoro fer square foot works well for me.
depending on how easy the plant is at rooting i usually get them to show roots around 3-7days

yep. everything said is correct. my input is how i do it.

buy the 12 peat pellet cloning tray. $4? and just use it as its suppose to be used. cover it once it a while to keep it humid, otherwise just keep a low layer of water and let it dry out till when you feel each pellet, it's pretty much dry, then add water again. after this, i just let it sit and by the next time it's dry, it should already have roots and ready for transplant. i leave the tray next to my flowering plants, so it just picks up the side lighting. dont want it to have too much light till it roots. now after all this does not work for some reason, which happens to a couple of them, i just dip it in the rooting solution and possibly recut, and then this time around it should work. I typically get all/most of my clones to work. =)
