COB LED Growlights I want to build my OWN.

I've been on 420 & Overgrow for over 2 yrs creating Grow Journals & Learning much about Growing.
However I've just found out that these New COB (chip on board) LED Growlights don't use heat to power the LED's Dropping Hydro Consumption Expediently. Anyone else know anything about Building one of these
COB LED Lights? I guess I miss worded this so I'll re-iterate here. Use Less Heat? & Much Less electricity to save on electricity consumption. I have a Mars Hydro II 900 watt full spectrum LED @ present. Now I'd like to Build my own COB LED to save much on hydro costs. Should I just put my 4x4 Tent back up and Hang my Mars Hydro back up for the difference in Electricity consumption does Not differ that Much? Anyone?

Sincerely: Don D.

its incorrect to say LEDs dont produce heat

1000W of cobs will produce as much heat as 1000W of HPS

but 700W of cobs will produce as much light as 1000W of HPS, so ~30% heat reduction is realistic

check out the growmau5 diy videos and stuff on youtube. He explains everything really well, it's a great resource.

Ey? wheres the logic in that. I thought that was the whole point of efficiency, less energy into heat, more into light.
A 600w of clu 058 will @1300mA(for sake of me getting to 600w) will be 51-52% efficient and create 288watts of heat, that been 48% of the total power of the COBs
600 watts of hps will produce 390 watts of heat assuming an efficiency of 35%, that been 65% of the total power into the bulb.

The PPFD and PPF of the COBs is about 1000 and 1500 respectively
The Same for the HPS is 690 and 1100
All based in the same 16square foot.

What's going on Bobby? What's changed in the school of thought on efficiency.

Because most light eventually turns into heat, only a small part is used for photosynthesis.

In a shoebox a 20w incandescent is going to heat it up as well as a 20W Osram LED bulb that puts out 2400 lumen.

Ahh I see what you are saying there, now I'm following the logic. Doh
Cheers!

do a few days of reading here in this section, watch the @Growmau5 videos, then you will have an idea on which way to go with your build.otherwise you will get 10 dif ideas on how and what to build.quantum boards are the latest craze here, very efficient light source, easy to assemble.multiple brands of cobs that suposedly beat cree lol.you wont find another led forum with as much info and build threads.gl its an addiction :eyesmoke:

Okay this is waaay to tech for me I'm green in the building my own COB LED Growlight However I think your saying that I just may be right here about COB LED's using less Energy & Heat to Produce the same or better yields than even my current Mars Hydro II 900 watt Full Spectrum LED????

Awesome U R absolutely right and I sincerely am Mucho Grateful for this sound advice. :bigjoint: I wish U the greenest of grows & the heaviest of harvest always. Oh and I have it on Good but Confidential Authority that I Can & Will make a COB Growlight by Hand that'll challenge and even outperform anything that CREE Mass Produces. :bigjoint::bigjoint::bigjoint: Put that in Your pipe & smoke it CREE!!! Not saying they don't make good equipment just that I feel they charge to much to purchase for the Medicinal Personal Grower/User is all. Then there's the shipping handling and if you're like Me in Canada the Insurance & duty is more than the light???? What the???? Oh well. It's Med time anyhow. :eyesmoke: :joint:bongsmilie

I think I can answer that without feeling foolish.

Yeah I don't think I will make myself look a fool by saying that COBs will shit all over a MARS. Check out all the build threads on here. Plus peoples grow journals.. Its impressive stuff.

Fair enough then, I was just hoping that I could figure out the difference in Electricity costs per yield etc. It's all good I got this now Thanx for the reply.

:peace: Out. Don D.
