so just about everybody ,has a story about the mtf and how they got a seed from a old timer or for my instance a older ladie that's been in the marijuana game for years, and had seeds off the mtf and many other old strains , , iam not here to say that I got the real, and you don't , all I want to do is compare pics of the plants and flowers, of everybody's version of the mtf, just for fun and comparing

I've never seen it, nor smoked it & I've been up here since 1977.

Of course I never lived in the MatSu & that might have something to do with it.
So that qualifies me to be a totally unbiased volunteer taste tester.

I think it's funny how some people(saying no names) think just because someone told them yeah it's a seed of the mtf , That they held on to all these years, that they can start a seed company claiming they got the mtf, I even got a lot of old seeds, I got from a lot of old timers from the valley, but you don't see me , selling seeds under the mtf name, but really I just want to compare, all of us who have similar story's, with pics and smoke description, just for fun, I'll post some pics of my old Alaskan plants I've grew.

I would have to agree with you on more then a few things mentioned in this post. I have been in the valley my whole life and as well have heard many say they have MTF seeds, well i am of the opinion that a lot of seeds where created on purpose and not.

That all being said i know only what I've done in regards to adding to the Seed population in Alaska. The so called MTF strain was a mother to many new strains and a lot of those came out of the valley in the late 70's and early 80"s. For example "Northern Lights" , "Big Bud" and many others that were never named by those who really created them.

I would go on to say that even the terminology used as in "beans", "flip" etc. to this old school person is weird and all the names being added to strains boggles my mind. Its all pot, it all has effects good and bad as well there are ways of creating hybrids good and bad.

MTF is much more about the ppl who grew it then the weed plant it's self . Many old timers including myself paid a heavy price for growing a plant that use to be legal and not legal over the years. Seems that a lot of ppl that are growing now are giving names to plants that very well could be originals mothers and fathers who the heck knows for sure.

As for myself i will continue to grow legally a strain in which i have had/grown for over 30 yrs. and i will use it to medicate as needed. I in know way am interested in knowing who has what or if what they have is an old strain.

In closing it is of my own opinion all the different strains all hold something unique to the pleasures and medical purposes so enjoy and create.

Welcome akbear.
I've been up here since 77 but never spent any time in the valley and to my knowledge I've never run into MTF, but I wouldn't mind trying.

Good to see more Alaskans on the board - again, welcome my friend.

GreatwhiteNorth,

Thanks for the welcome :)...... always proud to be an Alaskan however out spoken/bold i appear LOL.

It really doesn't surprise me that you've never come across it by Name really as those who grew it did not name it in the first place. Its more about the effect than anything of a true sativa not a hybrid and that it was hardy and grew outdoors well.

As i look above at the photo's of the young plants i can tell they are seedling as in the leaf finger count but as well i can tell that it is a hybrid because if you look at those leaves you can see both the traits of an Indica in the rounded tips and wide leaves, and as well you can see the Sativa trait in the sharp edges on some of the tips. See growing anything is a hobby/life style/now legal businesses, and how far you dive into that can and will create some beauty's for sure.

I have cancer now in my older age and as such have fallen back on that which is best for my particular type of cancer and thankfully what i grew back when i was a teenager in my dads back yard greenhouse along with the tomato plants just happens to the best to medicate my condition and in fact i have high hopes that it hold a certain cure.

I really think that if more Alaskans were to comment/join forums with out fear of getting into trouble or worse ripped off, you'd find alot of techniques that have been lost which are unique to the Alaskan climate as in outdoors and Various strains. Of course being that our state is cold the indoor growing will always be around and perfect plat form for creating many different strains.

I'm coastal, so our rainfall pretty much rules out the outdoor grows.
Just re-sided the house & removed the old "rough cut" attached greenhouse so that's a no go.
Indoor is where it's at though for us in our little slice of heaven.

Good luck to you my friend.

Oh yes agreed high humidity plus rain puts a damper on things for sure (pull barns of yesteryear got lots of use) in the coastal Alaskan slice of heaven, but with the ability to grow in a controlled environment is a no brainier any where in Alaska lol.

Onward and upward my friend cheers.

Intersting... bongsmilie

@FrozenChozen has a cut he calls Talkeetna Old Man, I believe he told me it was 20+ years old.

Either of you know if there's any genetics shared between the Old Man and the Old Timer?
The only thing that I know now about the two is that , my old timer beans did come from a old man, from where I can't say
