It's 7-9 weeks after flowering has started, not 7-9 weeks of 12/12. In reality that means it could take 11 weeks to finish once 12/12 has begun. Patience man!

The stages of the trichomes affects your ratio of THC to CBD. If you want a more energetic fun high then shoot for more THC; a more medicinal bud will contain more CBD. The CBD of course does not make you high but it does alter the high.

The first stage of those trichomes after they lift off like a golf ball on a tee is clear. They have little to no THC at this stage. The next stage is cloudy white. When they turn white they are filled with THC and small amounts of CBD depending on the strain. You will notice many clear ones still remain, you will usually have some trichomes in all stages of growth. Finally when they turn amber your THC is converting to CBD.

You want to shoot for maybe 10-30% amber depending on the strain and what you want out of it. Don't worry about the hair color, it can give an idea of the stage but looking at the trichomes themselves is the most accurate way.

The capitate-stalked glandular trichome changes color as it matures. Newly formed and immature glands are clear, glands reaching optimum THC production are cloudy or milky and amber trichomes have already passed their peak. By looking at the trichomes you can also determine the best time to harvest your plants. When most trichomes have gone cloudy and a few amber ones have appeared, the plant is at its peak.

CANNABINOL (CBN)

Cannabinol is the primary degradation product of THC and increases in concentration with plant age. The concentration of this product in the bud is heavily dependent on the time of harvest. Harvesting the bud at a late stage also means that the concentration of CBN in relation to THC will be higher when compared to the peak of THC production.

CBN is only mildly psychoactive and can cause "fuzzy head", drowsiness, disorientation and sleepiness in the smoker, properties that can be considered unpleasant in nature compared to the clear high of the THC.

The relationship between trichome colour and cannabinoid content is shown in Figure 3.22. The data were more evenly spread than those from the corresponding trichome density study. The slope of the regression line shows that there is a weak but significant tendency for darker coloured trichomes to be associated with low-potency cannabis samples.

The comparison between trichome colour and CBN content showed that the lower average potency in darker colour trichomes could be almost entirely due the THC having catabolised in these samples..

All I grow is master kush. It's a 9-10 week plant. Trics start turning amber at week 8. End of week 9 tops should start showing purple stems and top buds. Week 9-10 3/4 trics cloudy and amber with a few clear. If hydro flush at week 9 if soil flush at first shight of amber. Week 10 is harvest. 3/4 cloudy and 1/4 amber or more. A good 6 day dry and 9 day cure most are amber.
