could narrow leaves vs wide one be an early sign of sex?

Well, the width of the leaves is actually a sign of what type of plant it is, but not male or female.
The wide leaves are the more indica based plants while the thin leaves are the more sativa based plant. This has nothing to do with the sex of the plant. How far along are they?

If for some reason you cannot keep/save them all try to keep/save the ones that will likely give you the high or stone you prefer the most. If you prefer a sativa high keep/save the plants with the thin leaves if at all possible and if you prefer an indica stone keep/save the plants with the wide leaves. If you do not have a preference in high or stone try to keep/save them all so it will increase your chances for more females.
Then grow them out and see if they turn out to be males or females.
