Crab shells

How can I put them to good use for my plants? I do a lot of trapping for blue crab in the summer and end up tossing a lot of shells. Should I start composting and add them to that? How much is too much to add?

look into chitin meal /chitosan
it is a type of natural PGR alot of people use it in their soils when they mix their own

I have read people use this with cannabis and it works very well, the chitin will do something to make them flower earlier because of the hormones or something

Yes you can use the crab shells in your garden. They're a good source of nutrients. I buy crustacean meal in 40 pound bags for around $35. I use it in the garden and as an amendment when mixing my own potting soil. Wash them real god, dry them, crush them up, and use them in your garden or potting mixes.

I'm jealous of all the seafood you're catching. I miss living by the ocean. I'm in CO now. People aren't into much seafood here. They love their green chili though. There's actually only a couple places to get decent seafood around Denver. Nothing like the coast. Like xtsho, I use crustacean meal too.
