Curing with vacuum sealed jars

Since the curing process is anaerobic, would it be just to cure in vacuum sealed jars with a humidity pack?

Are you talking about actually pulling a vacuum on jars or using and oxygen scavenger to remove the o2 in jars?

Anytime you subject a container to a partial vacuum you lower the boiling point of liquids. So I wonder if there is any moisture loss in doing this.

Although, I guess it depends on how much vacuum is applied. Idk if a food saver draws enough to actually affect anything other than remove some atmosphere from the jar. If this help, I’m not sure...

Looks like you want air during cure and vac seal to preserve... Which makes sense to me.

Yes, i wanted to put them in a jar and remove O2. Since i wouldn't be using a commercial vacuum im sure there is a little o2 left. Also, thinking adding the humidity packs will keep enough moisture in to allow the process and not over dry it.

I will try a small amount and test it / compare it to regular jars.

Maybe try some oxygen scavengers? That would certainly remove the O2 from the jar but it would retain atmospheric pressures so no “boiling off” of water would occur. Again though, this would be dependiant on how much a vac was achieved.

I’m actually running drying experiment right now. Perhaps I’ll add some curing tests as well...

Could you please tell me what type of tests you are running? Im about a week out of cuttting down. Only test i was going to run was to leave a small set branches to dry for 1-2 months @ 70 degress/ 50 humidity . I have heard that someone did this accidentally and the buds where the best he had ever smoked. Guess they turn out like rock candy.

Only test i was going to run was to leave a small set branches to dry for 1-2 months @ 70 degress/ 50 humidity . I have heard that someone did this accidentally and the buds where the best he had ever smoked. Guess they turn out like rock candy.

Well, I’m trying out freeze drying vs traditional hang and dry vs water cure.

My plan is as follows

1 group dried in a freeze drier
1 group trimmed and hung in 60% RH and 65°
1 group trimmed and placed in paper bags
1 group trimmed and placed to water cure.

After all of them are done drying, I’m going to split each group into 3 jars each.

One will “normally” cure
One will cure under vacuum
One will cure with an O2 scavenger.

The water cured nug I have will be tested right after drying and then on to 3 jar to see if there is any advantage since the whole point of water cure is to forgo the traditional jar cure.

I’ll try to keep the curing jars within 60% RH +\-

I know this has all been done at one point or another, but I’m interested in what works best for me.

I have a decent harvest coming up in a little bit, so this will be a good test to see what to do with my main harvest.

PackFreshUSA 100cc on amazon.. ... may try these for the experiment.
I’m using 300cc versions. But yeah, those are the ones I use. When I freeze dry food, I seal the food in Mylar and one of those. Makes for great hunting and camp food. Stores for up to 25 years or so they claim.

Lol, I’ll do my best! It’s will take a while, but I’m sure the outcome will be worth it; at the very least fun!
This is my first grow and thats what i have loved about it. Very complicated to do right and so much to learn!

I made many mistakes on this grow, but still pretty happy with it. I have 1-2 weeks of flower then the new lesson begins, how to dry and cure :)

I hear yah, I’m in the same boat, first real grow for me as well. It’s exciting to see hard work and patience pay off.

Nice! Yah I’m running gorilla glue # 4 and blue dream right now. It’s been a wild ride but I think I dialed in my ebb and grow. I’m just happy I didn’t get any bugs or pm! And I’m definitely excited to see how harvest turns out.


Well, I have started one batch of curing. My trial of freeze dried gorilla glue #4 nugs finished drying in about 12 hours and they were whisked off to the jars for testing.

From left to right
1000 micron vacuum sealed cure
Oxygen scavenger cure
Water cure (fresh cut directly to water)
Regular jar cure (control)

Unfortunately I don’t have my hydrometers yet, so I’ll have to forgo the scientific humidity readings for now. But I’ll atleast be able to give it some redneck science and report back.

Unfortunately the stuff I am hang drying is still quite “wet” and looks like it will be another 5 days or so until I can think of jarring them.

Put some dry ice in your as it sublimates it will push out the air and leave it full of CO2.
I’ve seen that done quite a bit so I was focusing on two things I haven’t seen much on. Vacuum cure and o2 scavenger cure.

I don’t have dry ice and additionally I didn’t want additional moisture to sublimate out as the dry ice degasses. Good idea though!

I’m just trying things with what I have on hand. It was easy to pull a vac on one jar and drop a scavenger in another.
