Curious as to what you all would do in this situation.

Hello fellow growers.

Question for you all. I've been wanting to try out one if those 315 LEC/CMH lights for a while now, and have decided to go for it. I'm curious as to what you all would do. My current setup is a 1000wHPS in a 4x4 for flower and a 600w MH for veg in a 3x3. The two options I was considering are 1) buy a 5x5 tent and use that for the 1000w HPS and use the 4x4 w/ the 600w for veg and then throw the LEC in the 3x3. This way I would have a little more room Or 2) leave the set up as it is and just buy another 3x3 for the LEC since from what I've read, that's the optimal space. All input welcome. I hope this post finds everyone well, and thanks for reading.

1 i would not get that light
2 i go with LED or COB
3 or i keep what u got as u are maximum lumens in the size of the tent u have

CMH ........is crap it is one bulb and it does not allow u to half of what your current system does

the 1000w light u got u have choices of 4 bulbs
HPS ........red
MH ..........blue
10k/UVB......finishing bulb and pumps up the oil weights with UVB light
dual arc .......this is red and blue light .......400w MH with a 600w HPS in the same light at the same time

Thanks for the input. Def gonna keep what I already have. I just want to add another small tent to the mix 3x3 or maybe 4x4 max. Just not sure which light to use. I'm interested in trying something other than hid for less heat. COB's in my opinion are crazy expensive. And as far as other LED brands go, there are so many choices I'm not sure where to even start let alone which are quality.

cobs u can build your own if u have the skills

as for LED ......it depends on the plants u do and what u want to do
personally i like the Matrix S lights as they can do everything including the UV and 10K

if u are growing a auto plants u can use a simple generic LED for 100 bucks apollo light will work

Don't do autos. And I'll look into matrix S lights now! Thanks for the responses!
wait before u go retail talk to the makers

http://www.ledzeal.com/p44.html

this is the makers in china they will sell u 1 or 1000 lights..........trust me contact them and ask them for their newest price list

u will pay for the light .....the shipping and the import taxes ........it will be about 1/3 of what u pay from the store ....to talk to them just allow the scripts on the page and click the button on the left side of the screen it will fallow u down as u look at the info

Do photo plants need more light than autos or something now? Itll grow an auto but not photo? Get real.

CMH lights are "crap"? I dont think Ive ever heard that claim anywhere but right here.

OP, I recommend you get more opinions on this matter from people with experience.

no autos like both light waves ........they like any time table too but 20/4 gets the best results thickness vs oil weight

CMH is crap ppl are only jumping on it as it is a new thing
Ceramic Metal Halide
it is crap .......3000k laying down 3600k standing up ....no UVB no 10K
sheer crap .....it will grow a plant for yah but u are not going to make anything like i can with a LED or a HID or a COB

in 2 years that will be a dead tech the only advantage it offers is the power it uses ....but LED or COB uses less covers more and they are tune able .

If you're wanting to venture into new lighting, and add to your current setup cob is legit. This setup from timber would kill in a 3x3 http://timbergrowlights.com/300-watt-cree-cxb3590-6-cob-grow-light-kit/

People are getting great yields from the 315s too, they are only 40% efficient I think, where the cobs from the link are around 55% efficient at turning energy into photons. I just put together an 8 cob cxb 400watt and it is covering a 3x4' area really well. I expect no less than a gram per watt, all organic.

Those LEC's are great though if you just want to plug and play, but you will make enough extra yield with the cobs to pay for it with the first crop, and never have to buy new bulbs.

Hey thanks for the reply! I've been looking into the do it yourself kits. I'm still researching my options. I did purchase a gorilla 5x5 today. Pretty excited about it. I already have 2, 200 watt feliz CFL's that I can use in the 3x3, maybe add another t5 or two and use the space as a veg, clone, seed start space to feed the 4x4 and the 5x5 flower rooms. Not sure yet, and I'm in no rush.

Also justugh, I got a reply from the LED company we talked about, and yes it's much much cheaper to buy direct from them. The sp900 is around half of retail.

i got your back man .......u can order 2 lights for the price of one

and there new set up is nice i am looking at myself now .........end up order 20 or 30 lights and 2 controllers
i love these lights the daisy chain up to 250 lights on one controller .....it just make makes it so simple

the best part is if u want to play around with light lvls and all that u can .....with great control ..........just rem to wear safety glasses with a UV protection of 600 or bettter ....after about 3 years not weaing them i can notice a diff protect your eyes

and shhhh they sell to the retailers if everyone knew how much they were getting ripped off be roits.....it why i did not post the price to u

The 315w CMH Hi Par Sunstorm vertical kit I have is awesome. Nodes aren't as tight as metal halide and it doesn't stretch as much as HPS. The thickness of the leaves is thicker and overall the plant looks stronger and robust. Good growers who know what they are doing can grow with any type of light. In my opinion so far, I think LED's (the good one's) are way too overpriced for the results they produce. In the long run I guess they make up for the initial cost. I have always leaned towards HID lamps because I think it has better penetration for the lower leaves.

COBs pay you back immediately with increased yields and quality. No comparison to HPS.

Do a little more research before you buy a light you will have for years. Remember, no more buying bulbs!

https://www.rollitup.org/f/led-and-other-lighting.124/

For reference I went from .65 grams/watt on average with HPS to 1.3 grams consistent with COB.

It's a smart investment.
