That's hilarious, when I came up with that idea I thought I invented it... but I'm not surprised it's been done. Tim and I have both grown in SIPs, and with that method you make a trench near the bottom of the pot and fill it with time release nutes. My last grow I tried to build off of that idea by mixing time release nutes into the bottom 1/3 of the soil while using standard fabric pots. It worked pretty well, there were about a half dozen different strains and as would be expected they reacted a little differently, but for the most part I didn't have nute burn and they didn't show signs of being hungry either. The only thing I added during the grow was compost tea and cal-mag sometimes when watering. I will definitely continue experimenting with that.
Nice! Glad there are people out there trying the similar tech so we can exchange knowledge and share experience.
I'm basically doing a really hot version of my soil in the bottom 1/3. The top 2/3 will be more about drainage and maintaining the soil bacteria. The way it works when my buddy does it is that the roots sit at the top of the hot layer and pretty much uptake nutrients when they need it but still have a large root zone that they can take water from without feeding much if they don't want it. It is cool tech for sure.

Also, I will be making the final call on which strain to run on Friday at midnight so any lurkers who want to help me decide and haven't yet voted please feel free to do so.

Alright folks.. quick update.
Spent about 7 hours on my custom grow box today. The bass cabinet o' dank is coming along better than I could have hoped, but due to lack of a few necessary parts it is still an hour or two worth of work from being done. Pics will be posted when I'm finished.

Also, voting has closed and, pending the arrival of my seeds, Orkle is going to be the strain for the first run of the new box and the new HLG quantum board. I'll be honest, I was hoping it would win. :)

To wrap this boring update up... box will be finished this week and then I'm just waiting on the seeds. Waiting is the suck. Till next time. I'll leave you with a bud shot from my last grow. It's already been plastered all over riu, but here it is again. Just for you.

Not a boring update! I like the idea. Marshall stacks man! But oops, they're broken, soooory.
I didn't vote because I don't know what those strains are. But I like the name Orkle best. Sounds like an ugly creature that's half mean. And fuck that's a nice bud.

Thanks very much for the kind words! This grow is a lot of firsts for me, so I hope we all can learn some things together and be entertained in the process.
Now, time to smoke a bowl and get my day started. bongsmilie:peace:

Big thanks to @OregonEliteSeeds for the great selection of gear and the great customer service! Looks like more updates should be coming very soon. :hump::weed:bongsmilie

20180129_211054.jpg 20180129_211054.jpg Say hello to baby Orkle! I almost always start 2 seeds on my one plant project grows so I can pick the more vigorous of the two. After less than a day above ground this is the bigger, better looking of the two, but I don't choose the keeper until it's time to transplant.
And just so nobody worries... the clear plastic cup you are seeing is stacked inside a red solo cup. I do this so i can quick check root development. The speaker cab of dank is finished officially and I'll have pics once I get it home. Hope y'all are doing well!

20180201_234441.jpg 20180131_094314.jpg 20180131_094309.jpg Just a couple quick pics to share. Quite a difference a few days make. The seedlings are doing wonderfully and are getting a little leggy so I turned the driver up a little. Also a slightly blurry, poorly lit shot or two of the cabinet. For all practical purposes it is done, but I still need to attach son e white grill piping and attach the Fender logo. I'll put up better pics once it's fully gratified.
