I didnt buy from timber. No way. Unless you need the frame built they are way over priced for the lights and the frames.. Anyone can source the parts themselves for cheaper than what timber sells them for. Cree are also way overpriced.. The citiled's and the veros are usually more efficient over 50w for less money... Cxb's are 2 yrs old.. You pay for the cree name..

I run my crees at 25w and 50w and my power bill looks great. Lower power lower cost to run

See that's what I need to do is get my electric bill down. I paid $324 this month but my electric is it. I have no gas so it's combined since everything is electric I was running a shitty mars ll 1600 China trash IMO anyway. It blew 25 diodes, before I got a full harvest out of it. I'm running 2 tents a 3x2 which I have a light for, and a 4x4 the 1600 is almost expensive as running a 600 Hid. So that's why I'm going with the Cree Cobbs, but mainly because there the best lighting systems out there if you know what your doing. I have someone to build a frame but I don't like people knowing my business either. I could do it there's a Home Depot not far, I just rather pay to have it done. I'm recovering from a car accident, but still could build a frame there's a lot of info out there, plus everything is pre drilled. How many watts are you running altogether Vegas?

The problem with running these cobs so light is you need alot more to get the same ppfd.. Yes there 10% more efficient at a lower wattage.. But now you need 20-25% more cobs to get your ppfd where you want to be.. Everyones situation is different, if you want to spend a lot more up front to try and save a few bucks a month on electricity, it may pay itself off in 3-5 years... But for me im sure there will be some new super cob next year that i will want and will end up switching them out before i would ever see a return on that money... To each there own..

Your right I understand what your saying plus everything else you run like inlines, fans, oscillating fans, clip fans, etc. it all adds up in the end. Yeah I'm sure it won't save me a lot but getting bigger yields will help a little. That's why I going to take my time getting or building a light because new Lighting systems are coming out like crazy. But Cobbs I'm sure are here to stay and they will only be getting better as time goes by. Good info!

Absolutely bud, i say save that extra cob money and get better or more drivers and the biggest passive heatsinks you can.. Then when new chips come out, plug and play...

I've been trying to do as much research as possible before I jump all in head first lol. But that makes a lotta sense with the heat sinks and drivers. So the only thing for me to do is read up. I have about a month until I need a light for my Femmed plants growing now in a 3x2. There only 3 weeks so I have some time to look around and figure out if I'll build a frame or my friend will. because the next light I buy will be lasting me a bit. I don't care if I need to change to better chips down the line. Thanks for the help!

4000k has little too much blue for flowering... Think of how many people run hps start to finish.. Thats 2700k.. 3500k in my opinion is the perfect balance.. But to each there own..

I'm new to cobs and growing.
I wanted to mix 2 2700k with 2 5000k cobs until I saw the graphs on the cree 4000k.
But like I said. I'm new to it and don't really know what's truly the best. Considering I've got an expensive Blurple cob. Something I bought before I knew about this option.

400w in two fixtures with exhaust fans 4" I run one at 150 to 200w for veg and 200w for bloom plus I run some 3w reds and blues.

I like using 3500k with additional reds to get back to the spectrum in hps fixtures which were so successful at 2700k

I thought most HID growers didn't run just the one bulb. My understanding was that MH was good for vegetation. And HPS was good for flower. Due to how their spectrums peaked in either reds or blues. And that's why a lot of growers switch bulbs when going to flower.
So. Why would a light that outputs an almost even weighted red-blue spectrum, be worse than one that's more red weighted? I would have thought that would mean it's great for both stages.

I've been looking for Cobb lights I heard the Cxa is a new line of Cree Cobbs? I'm going to be getting supplies to build my frame next week and wanted to know if someone could point me in the right direction of which are some of the best Cobbs and most efficient on the market now? JimmyC has been giving me good information and suggestions. I'm not too familiar with cobb lighting that's why am asking for help. Or if someone could recommend a DIY kit for a 4x4 Grow area it will be in a tent. I would really appreciate it. I know some people don't like giving out there sources and I understand that. My price range is about $1000 maybe a little more. I appreciate any feedback!
