No brother, my bad. I didn't comprehend even though I read the op. It happens, I lock on to a part of something and become obtuse to key points... lol
It happens, I'm a dick accidentally a lot, lol. But yeah, he has 2 completed 200 watt bars at 1400ma. Anything changed will be an additional cost, and I think the costs far undercut the rewards in this situation. IMO it would be like paying $200 to have someone take an additional $3500 a year from you haha.

He already has panels built...so any cost is additional.

Are you pulling 2lbs with your 400 watts of cobs in that space? Because if you're not, you're not doing Better than a 600 can. But you're doing better in your setup because you're having an easier time keeping the rest of the system/environment balanced.

Not saying this is your situation, but a lot of the guys that are getting into cobs are so fixed on paper efficiency they don't realize that it gets really stupid at somepoint.

In your space of you used 500 watts instead of 400, and you pulled an additional 150grams+ from the added $5 a month. Now say you harvest 4 times a year. That's 600 grams a year you'd have that you don't currently.

So for $60 in electricity for the year, you have several thousand dollars in additional product. Efficiency is cool and all. But when your taking about 100 watts, you're not really taking about saving electricity/money, because you're not.

Huge setups with hundreds of thousands of watts.... Absolutely, when you hit 1000 watts your adding $30-50 a month to your electricity depending on if you're in veg or flower. And IMO if you're worried about $5 a month on your electric bill, you probably shouldn't be growing pot, it's fairly energy demanding.

This last run I'm looking at maybe a pound and a quarter in an 8 week window. My best with the 600 hps was just under a pound in the same environment. I still haven't hit the full potential of my cob build by far but I had plenty of runs with the 600 hps and it felt like I had hit it's potential with it. 20 zips of prime bud spits in the face of 15... lol :)

Good call, I missed the op having a 400 watt panel built. It was never the power saving but for me has to do with excess heat. I live on the face of the sun... lol I'm a dick at times when I don't mean to be and love a good debate. If I had my light to build over it would be at 1050ma instead of 1400ma... :)

Ime 600 watt hps consistently pulls 1.6-2.4lbs and that's about the most I could see them producing in a regular cycle without crazy veg time and training. But I think most of the time people have other parts of their systems that lack, whether because of heat from the hid or non optimal spectrum, but most people don't ever see what hids can really do because it's kind of expensive to put an entire system together that compliments hps in its entirety for one reason or another.

Cobs definitely can do better, but the bigger thing is that it's easier to do better. A huge part is efficiency as we're now putting out half as much heat per watt that we use. That in itself I bet solved 60+% of the problem in home growers setups because I don't know a lot of small time personal growers that want to spend thousands on effective hvac and exhaust/ventilation. Combine that with the high intensity point source light from hid, and the fact that everyone still thinks they need their lights as close as possible and you get a mess of an environment lol.

I get that. IMO anything under 2a is good. I personally run cobs at 525ma, 700ma, 1400ma and 2.25a so I kind of experiment across the board and If you're at ~50% or better I think that's the point you should start dialing other parts of the system and worrying less about light haha.

How much area per 600 hps do you allocate? I have only flowered in a meter squared, I will be pulling 1.5 here with cobs soon... :) I just do my best to learn and take notes every run and learn form my mistakes. I started growing on my own and in an unfriendly state have stayed to myself. Forums have been a help but you have to filter through the house shit... lol

And to be completely honest, with these white cobs if youre at 40% you're still going to be doing way better than you did with hids.

Very true, learning and growing... :) In my area my product is in demand before its dried. That's not hard when my competition is Mexican swag sack and grade c, poorly trimmed, over priced dispensary bud that been kiefed six times over. I have a lot to learn and tweek in my environment... :)

600 were my favorite for the longest time lol. I've run them in 30"x18" all the way to 5x5s, but most of my testing with them(so what I have documented) was in my hydrohut xl 2x4. Hydrohuts actual dimensions are closer to 3'x4.5'(so almost a 3x5), which is part of the reason I love hydrohuts, their 4x4 is almost a 5x5. I guess they wanted to make sure any tray/res setup would fit haha. I think a 600 in a 3x3 is about pushing the boundaries of both light and space. As, if you maximize the canopy in that space under a 600 you'll be pushing what the light can do whether or not you were restricted by the space lol.

My current setup is 310 watts of cobs in a 3x3, and I just pulled 535ish out of the space.

@PerroVerde @kmog33

sorry for my bad english

hello and thank you for your debate

^^

I understand that some say that 400 watt cob is better than 400 hps for better distribution of my cob in my space ^^

but consume less and I'd better not think that losing weight in weed is really lost

I see very few do it with 400 grams watt hps but much easier to do with cob

That said, the problem of 400watt cob in my space, heat is almost as high as the hps therefore Decreasing 100 watt also reduces heat, not ????

and will you make a good return VAEC 300watt cob, why not me ^^

but what is certain is given the temperature at me now, will I put my 2 panels ... I think that there will be high temperature in my room and even with my background in mining ...

for example in my other idantique space that 4 X 2 I 250 watt LED about "pure ISLED flo 3.2)

and I already had a temperature rising to 27 ° C or more can imagine with my 400 watt cob which releases more heat ....

I know it is the lens 90 which ca because my signs its liabilities dimension and I added in addition to the above and more fans to be sure to have no problem :)

I like to know what is the story of efficiency ????

@ 1400 between 54% and 61% at 1 050 @

my cob would be more effective to @ 1050 then decrease by 100watt to @ 1050 would it not be wiser as my friend;)

thank's you very much

Yes, the softer you drive the CXB 3590 cobs the mor efficient they run. 1050ma is a great point break between return of investment and efficiency. For 300 watts and 8 COBs a hlg 320 1050 (100$-120$) for all 8 or 2 hlg 120 1050 (50$-60$ each) with 4 COBs each is a great build. Your just changing the drivers out and your old drivers are still good so they can be used for expansion down the road, traded or sold... :)

I just realized he may have the ability to dim on the drivers.... They're hlgs so it depends which version. I'm sort of laughing at myself.

You may need to invest in better ventilation rather than downgrade light in that space. 400 watts of cobs definitely should put off less heat initially than 400 watts of hps, but if you're area isn't properly exhausted/ventilated, 400 watts of heat is 400 watts of heat, and 300 will be less, but not by much.

What version of the hlg drivers do you have? You may just be able to dim them in the drivers. If not you could always add a pot to each panel to dim the current to the cobs.

This would be your cheapest bet.

Good call @kmog33 ! A pot is a cheap fix to the heat the lights can throw off. I'm not sure which country @yoda954 is in but many don't have A/C. I run at night here in the desert to cut down on the amount of cooling needed. I know 400 watts of COBs feels 5x cooler then my air cooled 600 hps ever did... :)

Makes sense. You should be about 40% less heat with those cobs vs a 600 hps lol. I was speaking more of a better exhaust fan. Ime if you suck the heat out fast enough, the cobs never put heat out at the top of the plants. I had to turn my fans down because I like a slightly elevated leaf temp.

Run 4 of those chips on each driver and you'll have the same setup I do. And I love them!
Awesome i plan to run 8 but currently just have 6.

What area would 6 cover do you think and what area would 8 cover.

How many do i need to produce 95000 lux to replace my 600 watt hps.

My heat sinks are MF20 x 151.1 from conrad and im told i dont need any fans with these heat sinks, it that correct.

I need to cover a 4 x4 tent.

I just new to this stuff and really appreciate the help.

I made a impulse buy and purchased a package with this stuff in it on trademe and hope ive done the right thing , as ive never built a light before and know zero about this stuff.

I ran 4 at 50W each to cover a 2 x 3' spot.
