One thing is for sure they seem to grow slower in terra cotta pots....
What size pot? Is the pot itself exposed to sunlight? Just wondering why terra cotta pots would slow them down.

I just started germinating two Dark Devils, one is in the ground, one is in a SIP.

It's a small terra cotta pot I don't know what size it is exactly like a pint or pint and a half I just started it in the soil on May 15th so the pot shouldn't be too small. From my research the terra cotta pots stay a good bit cooler than other pots because they hold moisture really well because they are porous and so they will suck the moisture out of your soil and I guess that would contribute to the pot having a cooler temperature making the soil cooler and I think that is what slows down the growth because marijuana likes the ground to be warm in most strains. something like that. It will still grow but I have started several plants and planted them at the same time in plastic and terra cotta and the ones in the plastic always grow faster everytime. Oh and yes the pot is exposed to the sun.

I had the same experience with clay or terra cotta pots. Like you said they suck the moisture out the soil and probably the roots when they reach they side. Mary Jane doesn't like it

3 gallon pot for autos is best IMO
I've heard that 2-3 gallon is good size indoors, do you consider that to be enough for outdoors? I'm new to autos, I guess you can't compare them but I know with photos you need significantly bigger pots outside.

If 3 gallons is enough than mine are in total overkill, I've got some in 10 gallon fabric pots (the rest are in the ground). LOL, I'd rather have too much soil than too little, I'll recycle it afterwards anyway.

I have my autos in 10 gallon pots outside. Bigger the better. If they don't get root bound while flowering the buds will be bigger

Here is a perfect example. The plant on the left(May 15th), The plant on the right(May 23rd). I'm moving my auto tomorrow. Ridiculous. You can really tell a big difference, i'll never use terra cotta again. Not for marijuana at least.
