Deciding how many plants...

I have a 1000w MH/HPS switchable light...and I'll be making a 7'x4'x7' grow room and covering the walls with some thermal shield i picked up(its like poly shield but with mylar added; from what i can tell) I have 2gal nursery pots for veg and 5gal nursery pots for flower...I'm trying to decide if I should veg 16 plants and have approx. 8 females or should I go for the gusto and veg 25 plants and keep approx. 12 females. I can fit 25 2gal pots in an almost exact 4'x4' space and then my 12 5gal pots would fit in a 3'x4' space...But reason me asking is because I want to go for as much yield as possible off each plant and it seems like when you push the limits on plants per 1000w sometimes the outer plants are neglected and dont yield much..I'm not trying to do a SOG or anything as I'm growing from seed and want them to get thick and bushy rather than popsicles and I dont have the funds for a light mover so any advice on my situation would be greatly appreciated...If any other infos needed just ask thanks :blsmoke:

I'm certainly no expert here, farrrrrr from it but it seems like 1000 watts is a lot for a room that size.

And she is huge. well huge to me anyway.. LoL

Anyways I am sprouting some seeds right now 14 to be exact (Ganesha's Dream) and (White Widow) and my room size is 4'x6'x4' every thing seems to be doing real well. I will post a pic of my sprouts and of my Bag seed Plant here in a few.

Nah, you got 28sq feet of grow space. With a 1000w light thats like 36w per squar foot. Thats not to much, thats just about the lowest recommended light. It will work fucking awesome dude. I have a 1000w in a 8x4 room and its rocking balls. Its probably more like 6x3 but you know.

Ah yes good point Lacy about the room size for the light...in a room that big the temps would go pretty damn high but I forgot to mention I have an a/c unit and an oscilating fan to keep the temps to a nice 75F..and F4t4l my grow ROOM is 7'x4'x7' but I only need my light to cover a 4'x4' area during veg and a 3'x4' area during flower the other 3-4ft of space is just working space for me and also to fit the needed fans...I think to fill the entire space I would have to do a SOG or something to actually benefit enough..as i said before I want to grow these ladies out a good bit maybe get 2.5-3.5oz off each...So do you think I could flower out 12 heardy females with my 1000w in that space...This is like my 5th grow and I feel Ive gotten good with the setup I have...Ive just never done this many plants so I know it will be a growing challenge for me to keep them all healthy but I dont want to set myself up to fail by trying to fit to many plants under one light and then sitting there wondering why all my plants are dying...thanks for the replys everyone

You could fit 12 full grown girls in that space with no problem at all. As for the light issue, if you used ti to cover the whole space you're just getting the about the minimum most people agree is the benchmark (like 35w per sqft) soooo if you are wanting to use it for only have the room it will be HIGER wattage per sqft which is BETTER. So yes, that light is good for that room no matter how you divide it. It might not be a bad idea to throw a 400 or 600w MH in there also. As for heat, you will need an aircooled hood for that 1000w even with an A/C. The a/c may keep the room cool, but under the light will be upwards off 100 degrees that close to plants. When we first hooked up our 1000w HPS in our 8x4 room without an air cooled hood the temp went up to 110 in 30min. You will need an aircooled hood if you want to get it close to your plants...which you have to since your room is only 7 foot high. Aircooled is a must!! Im telling you now and hopefull you will listen cause im not trying to sound like a know it all. But when it comes to this i do cause my room is almost the exact same size and ih ave a 1000w hps too. So i hope you get one or later down the line when you plants are 4ft tall and you cant raise your light any more well you know the rest.

THanks for the response F4t4l..great input...Im glad you brought up the hood ventilation...I was wondering if I took a carbon filter and used ducting to attach the carbon filter to the light hood then ducting from the other side of the light hood(two holes one on each side for venting) to an inline fan then from the inline fan out of the room...would the fan pull enough to have the carbon filter work affectively while still venting the hood??? or would i need to hook a fan up from carbon filter to hood then another fan from hood to out of the room??...if that doesnt make since just let me know..i guess im just asking if one fan will make my carbon filter work and vent my hood or will i need two fans to do it??

No problem Lacy. This place is supposed to be peaceful and when ppl start yelling at eachother it gets annoying. Oh yeah and i forgot to ask u Lacy how much dry bud did u get out of ur harvest? I commented a couple times on ur Big Bud Harvest thread.

I agree that it is upsetting when you get people who just lack respect for one another. But that doesn't happen often (touch wood)

Sorry i didn't reply in my big bud thread philly. I find it hard to keep track of all these threads I've started.
I'm not sure how much I got since I don't have a scale but i filled up 11 jars full with a bit left over.
I think it was probably between 1 1/3 lbs. to 1 1/2 lbs. (approx)

Its a lot of work drying and curing it all. The only thing I would have done differently is that I would not have cut individual branches off and then wait for the rest to flower. I should have waited to cut the entire thing all at once because it was over 6 feet tall and cutting off branches like I did seemed to make it go dormant.

Perhaps because it was in its last stages of flowering, basically ready to die, and the initail shock of cutting the branches off might have been too much. The rest didn't seem to be ready BUT it might have just been the strain.

It was the hardest 'judgement' call i have ever made but I am very happy with the results and can't complain.

Did you harvest yet? You grow indoors only, right?

All the comments I made on there u replied to, I was just seeing if u remembered me or not. I started growing 2 plants indoors early this year but they both died becuz I didnt have the right lights and I dont have my own place, so I had to hide them the whole time. Im goin to start growing sometime next year when I get my own place. I figure ill grow a couple plants from the bagseed I have, and then grow a cuople plants from seeds im gonna buy online. I havent chose what strain I want to buy yet, white widow is pretty popular. I cant grow outdoors now becuz I live in a urban place and theres not much space and i could easily get caught.

To get back on the topic though I think that amount of light in that space will be good for about 10 or 12 plants. I thought the lighting sounded like a lot for that space too, then I thought about it and its probly the minimum that u should have. Just make sure u get enough ventilation in there.

yes I do remember you Philly. Yes i remember responding to what you said now that you mention it.
All my grows have been from bagseed and i have gotten some awesome smoke but like you, I ordered seeds online.

I can remember just last May looking at seeds from Amsterdam and thinking "wouldn't that be nice" not realizing that i would be buying some later on the same year.

I really want some white willow. Its THC level is way up there. Thats always a bonus.

I originally wanted to get a 1000 watt light but some people said that it would be too hot for where i want it and that i would be better off with a 600 watt. I'm torn between the 600 and the 1000 watt right now.

I don't even have my room yet.(got the dry wall etc) I just wanna get some ideas about lighting per square foot.

And I need to have another toke break.:joint:

No worries Lacy I just had a ventialtion question about my room and was wondering what set up I would need??...Heres the post..."I was wondering if I took a carbon filter and used ducting to attach the carbon filter to the light hood then ducting from the other side of the light hood(two holes one on each side for venting) to an inline fan then from the inline fan out of the room...would the fan pull enough to have the carbon filter work affectively while still venting the hood??? or would i need to hook a fan up from carbon filter to hood then another fan from hood to out of the room??...if that doesnt make since just let me know..i guess im just asking if one fan will make my carbon filter work and vent my hood or will i need two fans to do it??"...any helps appreciated

Thanks Smokeupipe.
I'm not sure about the ventilation system either.
Thats another thing I am looking into but I did find an excellent thread by some guy here and I copied it. I'll try and find it to post for you.
It looked like a great system.
