Democrat with financial ties to AT&T just gutted California's net neutrality law

Late Tuesday evening, Miguel Santiago, a California assemblyman and chair of the Communications and Conveyance committee, edited the bill to allow for gaping loopholes that benefit the telecommunications industry and make the net neutrality legislation toothless. AT&T is one of Santiago's largest campaign donors.

Santiago's move has surprised and angered other Democrats, who have been pushing for net neutrality in the Golden State since the Trump administration revoked the 2015 FCC net neutrality rules. Although net neutrality is no longer protected via federal regulations, states have been lining up to pass their own legislation protecting the principle of internet service providers treating all traffic the same, regardless of the source or content.

What happened to letting the people of the state determine their own laws?

The people of California obviously support net neurality, so why does the CA democratic party oppose it? Why are they choosing to vote against it despite the support from their constituents?

Why do Democratic constituents support net neutrality, but Democratic CA and national lawmaker don't?

WASHINGTON, Dec. 14 – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) issued the following statement Thursday after the Federal Communications Commission voted to repeal net neutrality protections:

"Once again, the Trump administration has sided with big money and against the interests of the American people. The FCC’s vote to end net neutrality is an egregious attack on our democracy. With this decision the internet and its free exchange of information as we have come to know it will cease to exist. The end of net neutrality protections means that the internet will be for sale to the highest bidder, instead of everyone having the same access regardless of whether they are rich or poor, a big corporation or small business, a multimedia conglomerate or a small online publication. At a time when our democratic institutions are already in peril, we must do everything we can to stop this decision from taking effect."

It couldn't possibly be the money.

Unless it's money in the Sanders campaign, of course.

Can't be. Those people actually received money for their campaigns. Sanders supporters don't believe in PACs that waste money on candidates and campaigns. Sanders PACs just spend the money on salaries, consulting fees, offices and administration.

I mean..

Wouldn't it be pretty easy to prove JD were scamming people as they claim?

The claim is that JD don't spend money on candidates, they just pocket it for themselves..

...

Yet multiple candidates have exposed the amounts they've received from JD, how much they've spent..

So their sources say JD is pocketing donations, without evidence

Our sources say establishment Democrats are pocketing lobbyist and PAC money...

A website you often cite says they spent $1.8 million on almost anything but candidates

Mainly just salaries and consulting

You got conned

Like the trumptard who got conned, you’ll never admit it

Justice Democrats pocketed 1.8 million dollars that were meant to further Progressive(tm) campaigns. Clear evidence is provided with that claim. Unlike much of the crap you post, this is based upon facts. The information/evidence is here.

https://www.opensecrets.org/pacs/expenditures.php?cmte=C00630665&cycle=2018

To make it easier for you, I'll post a chart that breaks down how contributions to Justice Democrats were spent. This according to Federal Elections Filings from the very same Justice Democrats:

Justice Democrats spending pie chart.jpg

That tiny little dark blue sliver on the right side of the chart represents campaign expenses. Practically all went into salaries, consultant fees, fundraising events and administration. Only about 1% went into campaigns.

Well, in spite of their alleged malfeasance, they're winning anyway.

Alexandria Ocasio Cortez has fired an electoral shot that will reverberate around the donorsphere for years to come.

Good for her!

If we can usher in a progressive movement.. great. I'm all for it. Right now I'm leaning toward anyone against current agenda. I don't think our country is ready for universal health Care and schooling though. The republicans will block every part of it. Once the Dems have majority and white house though... That's the progressives time to speak up on not enough being done and all that. That's their best chance imo.

No time like the present to get started.

Or, we could wait for the Republicans to finish wrecking our economy and democracy first, if you prefer.
