Designing my cabinet/grow tent

I'm undecided on whether to buy a cheap cabinet or go with a grow tent.

i know most people say grow tent, but i'm really concerned that it won't be 100% stealth...or that smells will get out of it. I know, buy a carbon filter. But I also don't want a bunch of duct coming out of my setup, because that kind of defeats the purpose of stealth. So I was looking at buying a really cheap or relatively cheap grow cabinet like the one seen here:

and replacing the CFLs with with this LED grow light:

and implementing this hydroponic system:

what do you guys think?

Any suggestions?

Old thread but…

First off, I’m not affiliated with Unique Hydroponics in any way well except that I’m waiting on one of their systems.

I’m getting the Yield Machine Max 4 Foot UFO Grow Box with 300 Mars Hydro upgrade in like 2 days. After looking all around for a stealth cabinet it seemed the cheapest and seems to have the same components and box as the more expensive ones of the same size. I’m getting this setup to basically learn with as I get my real setup cobbled together. Not sure how well the odor control will work but live in a rec state so that’s more for me than a legal reason. Only plan on growing 2 plants in it to maybe 2 ½’ after bloom so not sure how much odor there will be.

If you have the room for a tent and the money to set it up right stealth isn’t as much of a problem. Higher end tents like Gorilla Grow have infrared blocking on the top and light detection isn’t a problem. If your worried about all the ducting running out of your tent just do a closed system. Downside you now need to control CO2 Temp well everything as your system is closed. If a closed system is too much you can find insulated black ducting that doesn’t stick out as much.

I think the smaller under 4’ grow boxes are good for learning and novelty not much else. I don’t know about you but what I can grow in that box won’t last me, I would probably be out way before veg was over on the next cycle.

TLDR:

If you have the money go for a quality grow tent. You can set it up were the only thing exiting the tent will be your power cords. Properly setup you shouldn’t have any light leaks or smell from the system except when you open it.
