Determining Sex

this will be my journal on determining sex. i am starting from seed with this test. i am trying to eliminate having to take cuttings root them then put them into flower to determine sex. it takes 10 days for clones to root another 7 to show sex. what i will do here is attempt to place the whole plant into flower just long enough to see first signs of sex. at first appearance of balls or hairs i will remove. if they some male i will KILL them. if they are female i will put them back into veg and take cuttings for clones. this should knock off at least 10 days from my cycle.

the plants i am using are indica strains started germination Dec 1. cracked and planted Dec 4. they where vegged under 4 - 3' shop lights. after 5 weeks one plant showed female pre flowers so it was left in veg and cuttings have been taken. two others have not shown pre flowers. these will be used here. plants were topped at the forth node at 4 weeks in anticipation of mother training.

Jan 9. plants are at 37 days and were placed in the back corner of my flowering room (3x3, 600w). i stacked them on upside-down pots to elevate them towards the light. i will now check them every night with my glasses on and using a 30x jewelers loop. i've gotten a pretty good eye over the years spotting males so i'm hoping they will only be on 12/12 for a week.

more to come

day 3.

plants are being fed veg nutes only. no flowering nutes will be used.

at 30x inspection tiny nub points are appearing in one or two locations. to small for any determination. i think i already have a call on the sex of one but for this test there will be no guessing.

one thing i have not brought in to the factor yet is pre-flowers. that factor makes this an uncontrolled experiment.

plants are starting rapid growth. resin production is present. they were under flors for veg and have been moved to hps. they are in the 2 back corners so they are receiving slightly lower light levels than normal. i am only inducing flowering so light intensity is not a concern.

day 6. one plant has shown female PRE-flower. it was removed. this was not a flower that was induced from light cycle. it is 1 lone flower. actually just an 1/8" clear hair.
