Distance from light...

Hey all! I am wondering what is the closest anyone has anyone ever had there plants to there light. I have a 400 watt HPS light system and some of my plants are acctually growing to the point where they are only about 4-6 inches from the bottom of the reflector. The plants don't seem to be having a problem with the heat, but I know the temps at the canopy have to be dangerous. I am growing in hydro, which is why I think its not having a problem with the leaves drying out, but what do you guys think, I have already moved the light up to there second to last highest setting, I had them tied down earlier but an Ant infestation, coerced me to remove the ties, because the ants were using them as skybridges. I am getting some predator bugs and DE next paycheck. Myabe then I can redo the lst. Anyway, my original question, How dangerous is it? and How close have you had your plants to the lights without damage on similar lighting systems?

Pass this :joint: then reply!

put your hand at the level of the tops and see if you feel the heat if you do raise your light they can burn quick. about 12 to 18 inches is what i find works for mine

Hey there, I am going to have the same problem. My plants are getting closer each day. The light can only go so high in the hydro cabinet I have. I would like to know if this will harm the plants or not? My light is 400 watt hps too. In a vented tube with a cooling fan, but it is still hot to touch the outer covering. Let me know how you make out.

Thank you all for the replies, I am going to start LST as soon as possible, again, because I am almost maxed out on room. After I took the ties off last time I realized how tall they acctually are. They shot back to normal in about 4-5 hours. I am waiting for my Early Special and Blue Mystic to get to around there hieght, and am going to top all the 3 bagseeds to slow there growth, then I have to wait for them to heal from the topping, then off to flowering they go. Check out my grow journal if anyone is interested. Thanks again all.
