DIY with Quantum Boards

Has anyone tried running 3 of the 288's in series with an HLG-320H-C2100 driver?

Qb fv max 53.28x3=159.8

Driver output voltage 152v max.

I can see that the driver is clearly short by almost 8 volts. I've also seen the meanwells operate fine a couple volts short, but not 8. So I'm curious if it would run them without coming out of constant current mode. Or, just go with the 1750ma and not have to worry about?

Thanks!

Just built my first quantum board light. I used 4 boards running at 150 watts each. I bought 2 36" x 8" long heatsinks running 2 boards per heatsink. I have it hung and lit up but was wondering what is the max safe temp? They do get quite warm.. I can hold my hand on them but gets warmer than a vero 29 at 75 watts on a 140mm pin heatsink.

over voltage falls between 160-171 volt on the C2100. It may work for you

i believe it means his driver was limiting his set up, and he'll get another driver to replace it, that should work because its more powerful

The other driver is essentially the same amount of power (watts) it just gets there using higher voltage and lower current. The application I was asking about would have run the boards at a higher output if the forward voltage of the board configuration was within the drivers operating range. It wasn't, so the driver compensates by lowering current. Thus providing lower output. The 1750ma driver has enough voltage to cover the boards so it stays in constant current range and ultimately does have a higher output.

You are pretty much correct in the big picture, but the replacement driver is actually the same size.

My driver arrived today. Tomorrow, if I understand correctly, the Slate 2 will be back in stock, and Saturday the QB and accessories should be here. Maybe by this time next week, I'll be cranking two 135w QB lights! Damn excited. And still a little in shock that the wife approved the purchase! I'll be moving the 250w HPS out of my rather small cab and into a GL80 tent I just got (Yeah, she okayed that purchase too! Nuts. Guess I must be doing something right?).

Thanks again to Robin and Stephen! You guys are Aces in my book. Can't think of a better customer experience than I've had with HLG. And your continued presence here on RIU shows a genuine desire to be transparent and to connect with the clients. You're total badasses, guys.
