Do you count flowering from 12/12 switch or when you see pistil hairs?

Imo...Having guidelines is the best options no matter how you spin it. It’s more of a fail safe/guide to ensure efficiency.

To each his own...but I do believe giving newer growers ideas and guidelines is importa.
@Dr. Who comes across as a cranky old guy, but he means well lol. And don't let him fool ya, I've caught him counting days a few times lol. I know I only count to reference how long it took to finish, and not when it will. As doc said, that's up to the plant. I learned pretty quickly that the breeders ETF (estimated time of finish) is not typically very accurate. My outdoor grows are a 50/50 Mother Nature/time decision as to the finish.

No seed, 4 weeks veg then to flower and allow 14 days for flower to initiate.

I just fucked my first flowering plants as temps were 10°c on lights out like a freaking noob. Still dialling hopefully connect soon. Just turned the heating up, next ones into flowwer in a week this time no noobie mistakes :-)
I'm always doing stupid shit, that's my smoking area as well so when I leave I'm high....bad stuff happens when I'm high, I've left lights off, heat off, extraction off lol. If there is a way to stress em, ya I've done it lol.

Tell me about it, like literally i fix one thing and forget about another, been so busy getting veg set up i lapsed of flowering, veg tent get way shorter dark cycle everything seemed sweet but now damn and were waiting to start flowering again.

Ill get this right one day :-)

How about forget to pH up the water and feed soil water pHd at 5.0ish. I should be between 6-6.5... yikes. Well plants didn’t seem to mind. I followed up with more water with the correct pH and that may have helped lol...

That water may have turned my sour diesel auto into a monster as she is not showing any signs of slowing down. Lol

My tap water is ph 8 and has chlorine in, its fine in soil my plants dont care. Science wise it is such a weak buffer it dosent matter or so i believe. Soil shoukdnt need ph'ing and all that, some do a lot dont, mainly the problem is somthing else. :-)

Yeah i wasn’t too worried but a little worried as I was more mad at making the mistake because I was rushing to water the plants before my parents came over to my house and I didn’t want them to smell the plants from having the grow box open...lol

Ive always tried a test plant, just try one no ph'ing, youll answer a lot of questions and see what others are saying :-)

Oh yep was saying in another thread I’ve pulled 4 plants the past month and a half from me testing and fucking shit up. Lmao...I now feel I have at least the seedling and veg stage down pat and can get them to nice size, multiple tops and healthy. Flowering stage is another beast to tackle...

Not really understanding why your getting so brash with the guy, I didn't read everything
The question was answered nicely 18 months ago. When a thread's brought back from the dead just for arguments sake and it starts with HAHAHAHA then follow it up with a complete contradiction you might get a "brash" response

To each his own...but I do believe giving newer growers ideas and guidelines is important. I’m still new to this and always leanrning more each day even if I think I know enough. There’s alway more to learn and I’m glad to share my experiences with fellow growers.
Keep notes - in detail, for every run.

Simply put an X on a cal. in the grow for the flip time......

The idea of when to start counting is as variable as the breeders giving the info. Been doing this so long I can basically tell when I got about 3 weeks left. Simply by looking at the plant. You gain that in time, if your observant. As for the "stretch" ending. That's easy to learn by seeing...

I quit the boosting of P&K - mid bloom, long, long ago. So with that point, I don't have any need to track time.....It's plenty apparent when the last week hits. This is of course pertaining to any synthetic run I may do.
For the bulk of my growing-organic.
Well, it simply doesn't matter how long it blooms for......

I read the plant, not the days.....Plants speak - you learn to "listen"......Once you hear the plant. You do better, and get better faster. Relying on some nutrient line to tell you when to "do something" with the nutrient mix. Is a crutch in my book at this point.

Besides, much on the bottle nutrient charting is bogus and not really for cannabis, or simply is way overkill. If you blindly follow the charting, and think your getting the best result.....You could be quite wrong....

Now you have my opinion in brief detail.

Environmental differences are a BIG factor in differing finish times...

Retorical question becasue each variation is diffrent. If you "lock in" various flowering times IE so many days from start of 12/12 etc.... it depends on what you want...you can do it so many ways , like lets say you need to kind of "rush" becasue you need it now kind of you could always do lets say 8 ON/16 OFF and get some real nice results maybe not as big as 12/12 but how about 2 to 3 weeks earlier..if you can turn a crop around that much quicker you can offset the loss in 30% yield...all the old timers know what a mature plant looks like ...bottom leaves all yellowed and the buds basically almost half way dried ..thats what most look for....I say go 4 ON / 20 OFF and they will be ready in 3 weeks flat after veggin ...also helps to have a shitload of watts too:weed:
Sorry but no cannabis plants flower in 3 weeks where are you getting this information?

Counting days is just a guide to see where your at in the process... that being said id count from 12/12 flip that way u don't have to guess how long pre flower is and can get a more accurate judge of your timeline. Also I wouldn't harvest based on days or what the breeders suggest since as many have stated it's not entirely accurate. IMO best practice is count from flip and record how long till trichs are done on the first run then use that as a guide. If your not using clones and starting from seed every time i don't think counting makes a difference since every plant will finish in its own time.

Old thread I know but just my 2 cents

Still an interesting thread. I think a lot of seed company's deliberately kept on with the pistil time frame since it made longer runners look shorter and more appealing to newbs. At-least that's my conspiracy theory on it given the U-turn eagerness to point out strains that only took ''8 weeks from flip''. Community wise, I dare say some ego flexing of growers exists in that stating going from pistils makes a person look more seasoned. Not a dig at anybody in particular, I'm sure a lot state it simply because it's right (to a point).

To me it's more helpful to use from flip time frames as it's universally understood by both novice and pro growers. It also better accounts for stretch and projected finish time, that's very helpful for newbs to have an indication of, even if off by a week. Going from onset of flower alone leaves room for confusion and being 2 to 4 weeks out from projected finish. I'd wager a guess that confusion is why you sometimes see newbs cutting down plants covered in white pistils, aside from the ones who do it simply because, well, they are newbs ;p.

Very nice plants. I usually count from flip and let everything go at least 10 weeks. I haven't been at it as long as a lot of people on here but that's what usually gets them where I like them. I agree those extra weeks do help add a lot of weight.

I would tend to agree it's a lot more of a marketing thing than anything else. Why would someone grow a strain that is marketed to finish in 12 weeks when they can get 1 that says done in 8 weeks. What I feel it comes down to is trail and error with educated guesses until you can actually see and sample the harvest. But I also use clones and grow inside so im sure it's different for others. Again im no expert but that's just been my experience. The hardest part isn't the grow it's knowing when it's done.

If a particular cultivar is supposed to finish in say 7 weeks then I would say I have never had a plant finish in 7 weeks from just starting to show well. However if I start the countdown from the flip I can get pretty close to that 7 week mark. I do like my buddage leaning to the well done side rather than rare but i guess that don't mean squat.

I did have a pheno that would finish 7 weeks from flip but it yielded less. Had it yielded the same per run as the others it would have allowed an extra free cycle every other year. But that isn't all it's cracked up to be, you'd have to run the same shit all the time unless you got into staggered harvests.

It's a shame long runners don't periodically increase yield by % of time flowered. 3 harvests per year for the same weight as 5 harvests? yes please.
