Do You Plan On Going Big This Year?

Garden wise. So far i have about 12 tomato plants. And 15 red and green bell peppers. Oh and 6 banana peppers. Hope to throw in some carrot's, onions and yes some Sunflowers for prettiness Already have em vegging under some shop lights. Can't wait for the weather to turn. And i need to fix my rototiller. Damn carborator blew up on me.

Well I guess not s big as your garden sounds..lol. Me being new to the area here will have to do some trial and error. We have Deer and Ground Hogs out the wazoo and they are fine eating machines from what I saw when we got here late last summer. Im a seed freak by nature, so I have bags and bags of seed that I have collected from dinner preps and will try and go throw hand fulls of Spaghetti Squash, Cantaloupe, and Bell Pepper seed out around the areas with enough light to support them and let nature take its course. I will either have a bumper crop or a freakn petting zoo. 1 or the other.
Based on what I do know, I will probably tray and get some 5 gallon buckets
and grow maybe 6 -8 matos and the same on the Bells, but will keep them up on the 2nd floor deck..where only a bold critter like a coon/possum would travel. I currently have 4 matos in the grow room with around 40+ matos on the vine Both Better Boy Hybrid and Plum Dandy. With many young Bells Red and Yellow, and only a couple of them are 10" at this point and should produce for at least a couple months. Oh and 3 heads of celery..had to try it. A tray full of Radish, 10 of probably 50 have broke the soil. My biggest garden challenge this first year here, will be to find flowers for the yard the deer don’t like to eat. They are always around eating the wild raspberries.

You know I may try and do a hydro setup on the deck, I have never tried an outdoor hydro setup but think between hydro growth and performance with free lighting.. it just can’t get any better. I really need a Greenhouse.. Good luck

Yes i've been thinking about building a greenhouse this spring. Guess i could do it for around 100.00 since i already have the wood for framing. Oh so many projects and so little time

Got my new stuff on order.. didnt buy to much seed because Im going to try and use up what I have in stock.
I will do a Starwberry Thread when I get them in. I will get cuttings and put them into the homemade Aeroponic system, drop a couple 600w lights on them and move everything else outdoors..
I should have mass fruit after they get established.. doesnt take as long as soil where you have to wait 2 seasons for real fruit production to kick in... should be interesting.

I might be able to get a clipping from my mom's strawberry plant, question , would it grow if I got 1 leaf and start to root it and if it roots will it grow into a Strawberry plant?

I said cuttings but they are actually a couple leaves with a couple roots attached.. I would suggest digging up a clump and breaking it into multiple pieces..or really just spend $10 and get your 25 plants.. they come in bags to preserve moist roots until planting. The roots always have a thin layer of sand as this is optimal growing medium because they require nice drainage.
I feel this is why they should thrive in either an aeroponic or fogger system.
Growth should be explosive I would think. You could try and take some clippings, but they grow from a clump except for the runners.. this is your best chance. when you look at the runners, at every new node you will see where it will root if touching soil.. this is how they creep throughout the yard. Once established you can actually remove sections in between and the rooted runners with continue to thrive.

personaly I don't like growing flowers, I think that they are to easy, I'm going to grow some basil, other herbs and rescue a dying jade tree clipping.

Hi Redrum, I love Park seeds...I have grown many of their varieties, IMO they are a great value.

I live in the same area as you and I feel compelled to recommend one of my favorite Park Seed varieties...
New Guinea impatiens, Tango Hybrid. These do fantastic in beds as well as containers, super vigorous with never ending blooms all summer, very colorful.
They can tolerate direct sun much better than regular impatiens!

I dont grow flowers very much.. just start them off for the yard.
Those Sunflowers create one hell of a site at 8-9 feet tall and those Butterfly bushes rock. I hadnt ever seen them until I moved to NJ and both of my bushes averaged 20-50 butterflies during daylight hours. The Bats would swoop in around dusk for a meal while I sat in the yard and watched.. it was a pretty kickass show to say the least. I also managed to harvest some seeds from day lilies that were in the yard when we moved here in July.. They are just now breaking soil. Bring on the frost free nights..woohoo

Day Lilies @ 4 days in damp dark towl and 6 days in soil / coco coir mix. There are 3 breaking the surface and the others cant be far behind.

I recently found Park Seeds and love them! I have the 60 cell bio-dome and ordered the Whopper for clones. I am growing Thai Basil and Thai chilis among other things.

I am just getting things ready. I too like the sunflowers for prettiness. They look awesome with artichokes if you let them flower. It gives a great combo of yellow and purple - beautiful! I am really into a tomato called "Sun Gold." They are a small tomato (like a Sweet 100 or Cherry) and they turn a yellow/red color. The finished product is so sweet! I also grow green beans - they make a nice back drop - bell peppers, onions, squash, zucchini..I could go on and on...Go Garden!

I have never grown Sunflowers before but had many as they are many where I was born and spent a good portion of my life. The matos rock, I havent ever tried the sugurys I ordered, but it says they are the sweetest of them all so we will see. I'm fired up about spring getting here. I think we all are at this time of year.. just moved from Houston..lol.. where its spring and summer and spring and summer again.. atleast our 10" of snow is melting off.

i actualy have thought about starting a bonsai tree and grow it for the rest of my life

they are super kewl, but I would reccomend finding a free or cheap class on training them. I hear you can get those wicked african trees and make them bansi's

If you buy the above biodome, take the term Jumbo with a grain of salt. I should have bought the Whopper. The Jumbo cells are only longer than your typical round starter plug by about 1/2". In fact I think to avoid paying proprietary prices for there refill plugs, I will remove 1/2" from the foam insert to allow the water to get to the typical plug. Other than that, it did manage to fit down inside of my seed / clone box I build so I lined the Reflective white inside of the box with Mylar for greater efficiency of my 65w CFL.


0348 Butterfly Bush Mix Seeds - $2.75

So these being new to me were the first to go into the bio dome I removed all but the center most 18 plugs and open the Butterfly Bush seed packet to find what has always been intimidating to me.. fricking microscopic seeds.
LOL.. I had to get a pair of tweezers and even then was holding my breath as I placed 2 on top of each cube. My hands are of average size, but trying to handle these seeds was very tricky. Guess I need one of the air puff seed dispensers.

My free gift turned out to be Cucumbers.. last time I tried these I had some real beauties. Pick them and they tasted like poison.. I thought I was going to puke the cuke.. I will take these seeds and throw them around some clearings in the woods and let them take their chances like what I plan on doing with all my winter time collected cantaloupe, butternut and spaghetti squash seeds.
