Im starting growing again but the mrs will only let me do so in the garage. The problem is odor control and that my garage is joind onto nextdoors garage by only a single skin block wall and a bit of isulation stuffed in at the top by the rafters.my grow room will be made from timber and will house 12 plants aprox .I'll have a home made carbon filter fitted but Im a bit worried that nextdoor might get wise to it. any thoughts?

Ur only issue should be the smell and I don't use filters so I don't know how well they work. It would be sweet if the neighbors smoked too, they would just think u were in the garage burnin one if the smellled it.

how big is ur grow room and how big is the air filter? these two things would be the first thing i would make sure was worked out. then make sure ur setup is airproof. the only air coming in and especially going out is well regulated (and for going out, make sure that shit is filtered). pretty much if you do those things and do not talk or even joke about it with ur neighbors u should be alright. u will be amazed at how well a carbon filter, even home made, will work!

Sounds a little too close for comfort. People are just fucking noisy most of the time. If you open your garage door and someone is in the drive way and they see this new structure inside, I am sure they will be naturally curious. Do you rent?

carbon filters do work great, and you shouldn't have a problem as long as your ventilation and filter are up to par. But, why will your wife only let you use an area of your home that is prone to risk for your grow, she may want you out of the house for a couple years. J/k

This guy is on the right track, what's the point of risking it. If you do rent, don't even risk it.

yea right, burned weed and growing weed has a completely different smell

c'mon... do u even smoke weed? Weed smells like weed to anyone who knows what it is wheather it's burnin or not. unless the neighbors are growin it too, they won't know the difference, especially if they're stoners. How many variations are there when it comes to the smell of a skunk? If ur growin somethin that smells totally different, guess what, ur not growin weed.

I would be more worried about the noise of fans. Seeing as its connected they probally have the same style garage but just on the other side. They would be like oh we don't have fans running all the time in ours what is he doing? I am guessing your in a duplex, I did a duplex grow in the crawlspace that the only way to get to was a square you lifted out of the floor in the master bedroom closet. I would say to you significant other to let you have a closet or something because a garage like you explained is just not safe from nosey neiboors to looters to even cops that might pull by and notice something funny. Don't risk it.

Like Z said, it's not worth it to risk it if ur not sure about the area. It's better to go without than to go without IN JAIL, Or even to get jacked by someone else. i like the crawlspace Z wastalkin about, no one's gettin in there til u get in the master bedroom, thn u gotta get to the closet... I like that, wish i had somethin like that to use.

The whole garage thing to me does not sound safe as mentioned. Maybe talk to the mrs and see if you can just get a grow tent going like a 4x4 one somewhere in the house if you gots the extra room.then you can just say to anyone who happens to see it if they do for some reason that its a wardrobe or something.....
or if all else fails kick the mrs into the garage.lol

I'm surprised no one has suggested ozone. Check this out. You could also try the Jr. version, which is cheaper, if you run it all the time and keep a fan mixing the air in the room it might cover well enough. Keep a can of Oust! deodorizer, as well as incense and aromatherapy oil diffusers, handy if you need to kill the hint of an odor. If all else fails, light a cigarette or cigar and blow it about.

if you're creative and put a little thought and work into it, I say you can make it work. if you walk into your garage and you can smell it or hear it, then you have a problem. any other problems have fixes and ways around them.

I like your way of thinking. Do you have any thoughts on good homemade carbon filters vs expensive bought ones.

an expensive bought one would probably perform better. they use ultra sonic vibrators to settle the carbon in the filter better, so it's more compact and will filter more thoroughly. I made my own filter with fish tank carbon and a wooden box about 12x18 inches. it's cheaper and refillable, and for my needs, it works just as well. it's a matter of personal preference. working carbon filters can be made pretty easily, or you can buy a real one for more money.
