Does this seedling look like it wants some food now?

Hy guys ,

I just wanted some opinions on the colour of this seedling.

I think it looks like it needs to be fed now, I've been giving it straight water for the last week or so after having nutes a bit early on in their life.

I have House & Garden Coco A&B and some H&G Roots Excellerator.

I was thinking of using say a 20% dose of what the recommended dose is for the Coco A&B, and using the recommended 0.3ml/L of the Roots Excellerator. I will be transplanting these in coco later this week hopefully when the other plant catches up to where this one is now.

I was thinking of putting these rapid rooters into 3 inch rockwool cubes to then go straight into my big 50L pots. I thought this may be a good idea to help get the roots established a bit more before they get to roam free in the 50L of coco. I saw this on Neil's youtube channel, "grow pot cheaply" he has grown some massive autos! check it out if you haven't heard of him, you may be able to get something out of it, or let me know if there is somewhere better to learn. This is all new to me and so many opinions of what to do...

Any tips on the start of feeding with my products would be very helpful and appreciated, also if you have anything else that may be helpful to a noob, please feel free!

AHHH! that is interesting, it is about 2 weeks old now. Would i be ok to put in in the rockwool cube today or should i wait till Wednesday or thurs when I can put it in the rockwool then in my final pot of coco and start it under the HPS? I was hoping to get the other plant up to speed and do them both at the same time, but if this will risk harming the plant I am happy to do sooner, its just I can't run my hps until later in the week when my fans arrive. 1st grow problems. hahaha.

Is it possible to be something such as overwatering, or hungry? or does it look like neither?

Thanks!

its way too old for that rooter plug, the roots are dying as they try and grow, this seedling may likely die to neglect. Do not feed it, precharge the coco with the 20 percent you were talking about and move it asap.
Dont put it in rockwool, just move it into the coco. Rockwool is not ph stable and there is zero reason to go from rooter plug to rockwool to coco.

A seedling can grow alot bigger than that with zero nutes. But youve stunted it in the tiny cube, and likely overfed it by giving any nutes at that age.

OH CRAP! the dude at the grow shop told me these would be fine for at least a couple of weeks in the rooter... I wish now i practiced with some cheap seeds. oh well, not much can be done. see how she goes..

thanks for the advise, i hope it doesn't die, this one is doing the best out of the ones i planted too. the other one is really small, one died. not off to a good start. Expensive seeds to be dying like this.

Follow up question, should i be re planting these in final pots when i see any roots from the rooter? because it really only took 3 days to see that happen. There is so much information in detail about bigger plants, but i have found little on seedlings. live and learn.

@cookie master Thanks for the advise man, I just got done rehoming these 2 little girls, rinsed the coco thoroughly with tap water, ph my tank water to 5.8-6.0 (waiting for my ph pen to arrive) using drops. Rinsed the coco with the ph'd water.
Mixed up 20% of the recommended feed from H&G coco A&B for week 1 plants, the full recommended dose for the roots excelerator (apparently this can be used right from the beginning..) Charged the 2 pots, let drain then transplanted.
I gave them an ever so slight watering of some ph'd water with some of the roots excelerator only, no other nutes. Hopefully this was all done properly. They are now chilling out under the hps running at 60%. How does that all sound ?

Unless you can really trust them/have a relationship with the people at the shop, don't listen to a single word anyone from a grow shop tells you. They're in business to make money and that usually doesn't happen by helping new growers out. A lot of shops will give you bad advice, sell you something you don't need, then wait for you to keep coming back so they can rinse and repeat. Post on forums or do some research yourself, but if you depend on the guys at the hydro store for advice on harvesting a successful crop you're going to end up spending a lot more money than you need to.

That really sucks! But I understand what you're saying. It's great to have a place like this to ask questions, I dont know what I'd do without it, and you guys, to help me out with this! Thanks again everyone.

They should perk up, now keep it simple and dont use any more additives or nutes for 2 weeks. dont overwater either, it may take a week or more before they need water at this point. Whether you up pot straight into the final pot is up to your growing style- big bushes or a smaller sog style. Definitely up pot from that rooter instantly, day1 have it in a cup or something bigger, the roots grow fast and die when they hit air. Also you dont really need the rooter for seeds, I like peat.

This plant is very sick at 2 weeks old. Cant see it doing much if it lives at all, you need to make some changes before you start again.

He can nurse it back to health, but I agree that a new seed started today will pass this plant up in veg. Its very possible its a male or stress induced herm too.

Hey guys I'm in a similar situation.

I planted my rockwool into coco under 400w MH light but it seems to be not growing. Had it under light for about a week now. Can I start adding nutes? I have the same AB coco nutrient.

Any help would be appreciated.

they look fine, do not add nutes at all. I dont have luck with coco and seedlings, I see damping off too much, I get no damping in peat so keep air circulating. 400watts is alot, try some 20 watt per tube shoplights and keep the light close.

OP go back to grow shop, but some Happy Frog soil immediately and plant that poor thing! for future reference, using root riot cubes for sprouting is a great idea but as soon as you see a sprout, you need to plant it in the medium you intend to grow in.

you are also clearly over-watering your young seedling. no seedling needs any food that is in soil for at least a month if not longer if you just up-pot to a bigger container.

Thanks for your help man, I already transplanted it into coco, its getting there now, but there is a week old one next to it now that is almost as big. if it hasn't sorted itself out in the next 2 weeks Ill pull it out and ditch it.

I think Ive made a good amount of mistakes to begin with and learn from so its not all bad, only bad thing is the price of seeds.

Actually I could be wrong about having learned from my errors.... Do these two little ones look like they are going down too? the new leaves here aren't nice and dark green like the older leaves, they look healthy but look like they are a bit patchy with lighter green and dark green on the new leaves. Hopefully you can see them ok..
these have been in the coco for about a week now and have been fed once with half strength House and Garden Coco A&B with roots excelerator as directed.

What do ya'll think?
