DWC res water to hot

Wow you a rep for them or the owner? lmao
Yes. Pretty sure he is.

Watched a youtube video. The person making it says they recommend running it 3 hours a day. The emiiters have a 1600 hour life and are $60 a piece for the cheapest ones. The cheapest total system is 199.99.

All for 50% more oxygen. Get a better pump and more airstones. Neat Idea but cost is crazy. The system sounds like it should be used in conjunction with airstones.

They need to get that price down to like $60 for the smallest kit and maybe 299 for the biggest. It does seem like it works but it's ridiculously expensive. I'd grab one at $60 for compost teas for sure. The emitters seem great for that.

You really need to invest in a chiller! I did and made all the difference in the world! Warm room , cold roots, heaven for the plants. Look at Active Aqua Chillers. They sell them on Amazon. A chiller is worth the investment!

Edit: sorry didn't see your last statement. Maybe this not an option, unless you change your setup.
Did it ever occur to you that those temperatures are fine and a chiller isn't necessary.

I agree if you have a good air pump and plenty of air stones 77 not crazy but it is getting close to warm IMO. I like to keep it in the 73 to 75 max range.

My Rez gets up to 90 sometimes and I've had zero issues. I have a peltier that gets it back down to 70 every night though and I top it off with ice cold water

Tell me those roots don't look perfect

@SuperHI TnT any chance you can post images of how you have the peltier setup and also in your pic you have airlines going into the net pots, do you put airstones on them or just straight airline.
Cheers

Dam looks good bro!! I am working on a peltier system too. Just waiting on my water blocks and pumps to arrive.

Nope I didn't. To each their own. I set my temp to 68 and forget. Even when the room is at 85, the water still 68. But you go ahead and top off with cool water and your homemade cooler. Of course I chilling 240 gallons of water, how much are you?

Those airlines aren't going to my bet pots actually. I have one airline going into the Rez and it tee's off into two airlines that go to the bottom of the Rez. What you see there is just the roots grown around the airlines. The picture is of my original prototype of my peltier. I upgraded to a better CPU heatsink since then.

I'm not trying to be a dick but sometimes a 68 degree Rez is impractical and it isn't a necessity in my experience. I just wanted to let everyone know that a decent plant can be grown at higher temps. it just seems like a lot of people think that it's absolutely necessary to have a chiller when they've NEVER even tried to grow a plant without one. In fact their ONLY shred of advice is to.....get a chiller.

In reality the only reason 68 is the recommended temp is to prevent algae and bacteria from growing not because the plant needs that temp to grow or thrive. In the end there is always more than one way to skin a cat and chilling your water isn't the only way to keep algae and bacteria from growing...just sayin

I'm glad your setup works for you organic miner. Sounds like you have a pretty streamlined grow. Set it and forget it type stuff.

P.s. I wish my air temps topped out at 85 because my peltier would have my Rez at a steady 68 degrees as well. But they don't instead they top out around 100 degrees or more and renders any sort of cooling device useless during that heat.

The only reason I suggest "get a chiller" is that I spent months dicking around with dyi methods and warm res's. My plants didn't like. Got a chiller for both veg and flower rooms and the plants took off. Thick white roots and lush growth. It could be all the other things I do as well, O2, nutes , etc. it worked well for me, and I wasted time and $$$ on other solutions.

Glad to here you solved your problems. It's nice having beautiful roots and lush greenery isn't it

I'm going with @SuperHI TnT and the temps are not even that alarming. What would be alarming would be if you are finding gunk in your water at these temps. If your roots are white and no crap is growing, chug on.

I recommend a sterile res, a little bleach and the warmer temps won't be an issue. We ran this whole summer with temps 80+ in the res and no sign of anything nasty nice and clean pool smell.

Home Brewing Oxygenating – advanced brewers cut to the chase – keep yeast metabolism high using supplemental oxygen, adding pure oxygen trumps water chillers and cold water every day... no noise either.

OXYGENATING AEROBIC MICROBES IS VITAL

Oxygen is a critical additive in brewing. Oxygen is the only necessary nutrient not naturally found in wort. Adding adequate oxygen to wort requires a fundamental understanding of why yeast need oxygen, how much oxygen they need, and how to get oxygen into solution and the factors affecting solubility of oxygen.

Why Yeast Need Oxygen

Yeast use oxygen for cell membrane synthesis. Without oxygen, cell growth will be extremely limited. Yeast can only produce sterols and certain unsaturated fatty acids necessary for cell growth in the presence of oxygen.

Inadequate oxygenation will lead to inadequate yeast growth. Inadequate yeast growth can cause poor attenuation, inconsistent or long fermentations, production of undesirable flavor and aroma compounds, and produces yeast that are not fit for harvesting and re-pitching.

How Much Oxygen?

Oxygen requirement is variable depending on: yeast strain employed, original gravity of wort, and wort trub levels.

Some yeast strains have higher oxygen requirements than others. It is generally safe to assume that you need at least 10ppm of oxygen. 10ppm will supply adequate oxygen in most situations. Over-oxygenation is generally not a concern as the yeast will use all available oxygen within 3 to 9 hours of pitching and oxygen will come out of solution during that time as well. *** Under-oxygenation is a much bigger concern.

Hey Burke, are you still with us? Just wondering.

Bleach will help if you're struggling with warm temps just to keep the nasty stuff at bay.

Change the res more often.

Bleach is a great disinfectant provided the concentration is high enough and maintained.

How many ounces/cups of bleach per gallon of res water do you recommend?

How many times per week do you recommend changing the res water per week?

Do you recommend adding bleach for every water exchange?

3ml/gal uc roots for reservoirs with roots, and up to 10ml/gal for the clones. No set rules but it has been working.
I don't change the res until it gets overly warm or gunky or problematic, but if you don't use bleach or other methods it's an easy way to get the temps down, just change it out for cooler water.
We ran the entire flowering cycle this summer using the bleach at 3ml/gal in very high temps without a single change and had no rot or res issues.

I understand that your DWC isnt the "R" version, so this may be just too much work to be much use to you, but this is how I chill my nutrients without a chiller...

I have two General Hydro Rainforest Aeroponic systems that I gutted and made into a 12 site RDWC system (I only use 4 sites to due crowding). This season, ay the beginning, I decided to add a chiller. I bought a 1/4 HP unit for 50 gallons worth of liquid refreshment and it showed up thrashed. It sounded like a box of broken Mason jars when you shook it... This thing was chooched. At the time the weather was 106. I grow in a insulated shed in the backyard. Inside the shed air was way over 90(air conditioner wasnt in yet) but my nutrients were 84! I'm thinking im gonna end up giving a funeral, and starting over. So I put in a window AC, i decided to run ducting and an inline fan (6") from my air conditioner to a 6 inch hole in my res lid. I only use 1/3 of the output fron the AC. At that time i just rested the lid on the res. So the cold air could escape. Bottom line is, in less than 12 hours i was down to 74 degrees. I was using Subculture from Gen Hyd. and I have 2 large air pumps with 12" diffusers, so air wasn't really an issue. I have since gotten the nute temp down to 60 while trying to make my Ayahuasca Purple, purple. That's next. When it gets toward the end of the grow, in about 4 weeks and it cools off a but more I will chill the nutes, and air to get some color in my flowers.

I've never heard of anyone using the AC to cool their water like this, but I'm sure it's been done. It's too easy not to have been done before. Anyway, if you ever link your pots together and add a central res. you may want to think about it.
